Chris Joss
Teraphonic Overdubs

A third album from Chris Joss, his second for the Thievery Corporation’s Eighteenth Street Lounge label. Clearly he’s a man who loves his film and TV themes from the 1960s and 70s, but he isn’t afraid to add a few unusual colourings to the mix as well. Among other things, ‘Teraphonic Overdubs’ enjoys excursions into disco, breaks, funk and psychedelia, throwing sitar into the mix on glam stomper ‘Summer Springs’, applying a harpsichord to ‘A Room With A Vu Meter’ or going for a full on organ wig-out with ‘Granted’. Meanwhile ‘Jungle Dolls’ would perfectly suit the end credits of a TV series, exceptionally well crafted. Interesting and inventive – if perhaps lacking a bit in subtlety.
