Back To Mine with Aaaron

Billy Cobham – Heather

What can I say? This is the Original of Souls of Mischief – ’93 Till Infinity’. A Song that was part of my youth when I grew up and started skateboarding in the 90s. No Matter how often you listen to it, I never get bored. Even after all those remixes. The Original one is nowadays a often played track at home or in my studio to calm me down. The Horns are just epic.

Crowded House – Don’t Dream Its Over

For me this is the 90s even tho this got released 1986. Its about what Freedom ment to me as a teen, about first love and feeling hopeless 1 week later 🙂 And of course about Dreams. Somehow the 90`s felt like a really secure time. There was nothing to be afraid of. Everything was possible and you just did whatever you felt like. But maybe this is what it always feels like when you are 16.

Souls of Mischief – Step To My Girl

Since I’m not naming ’93 till infinity’ (see above) this is my second favorite track of Souls of Mischief. Back to the glorious days of skateboarding. Heard this on the first 411 Skatevideo I bought.

Gerry Rafferty – Baker Street

A Song about how hard it is in a big cold city and staying hopeful for a great future. Real Magic here with the Sax. “When you wake up its a new morning, the sun is shining its a new morning…”

Pigeon John – Sealed Fate

Just Epic! One of my favourite vinyls from back when I came to Berlin 14 Years ago. Listening while riding the train in the Summer.

Queen – Bohemian Rhapsody

For me, Freddie Mercury is the greatest musician that lived. By far. I was playing tennis as a teen with a professional trainer. And everyday after school we drove 60km to a few Cities from where we lived. On the car ride we listened mostly to Queen. I remember at that time it felt really boring. I mean it was catchy don’t get me wrong – but I was more interested in Hiphop. Years later I think by 19 or 20 I got it. He was truly awesome. As a musician and a person.

Warsaw – Transmission

This is a recording of ‘Transmission’ before they renamed Warsaw to Joy Division. I bought the’An ideal for living’ EP like 8 years ago maybe on Discogs. And its the most I spend on vinyl till now. But def worth it. Its dark, melancholic and powerful. Ian was a true poet and you can name any song they did as a masterpiece.

Pink Floyd – Breathe

For many people one of the most influential LP`s ever. Like with Queen this comes from my parents music taste. This was played so many times in our living room. As I child i didn’t understand it.
“Long you live and high you fly
And smiles you’ll give and tears you’ll cry
And all you touch and all you see
Is all your life will ever be.”

Pink Floyd - Breathe (In The Air) (Extended)

A Number of Names – Sharevari

This is know to be the first ever Detroit Techno Record. “The Scene“ was a daily TV Dance Show that invited people from Schools and Projects to a dance-off to show the skills. For me Sharevari was mind blowing when I heard it for the first time in a Club in East Berlin after I moved here.

David Bowie – 5 Years

This was already one of my favourite Bowie tracks – ever. I had the vocal of this track already for a few Years but couldn’t find anything that worked with it. But clearly there is. Ask Rampa. : ) I love how the power of Bowies voice which swells while the track is evolving. “I never thought id need so many people“.

Aaaron & Deckert Feat. Valentine – L.D.O.E. EP

Connected’s next essential release finds Aaaron join forces with newcomers Deckert and singer Valentine for a great new single. Floyd Lavine also steps up with two remixes and completes another standout package. ‘L.D.O.E’ combines the talents of each individual to create something really special: Aaaron provides a sub-heavy, African-inspired groove pattern and combines it with Deckert’s intense harmonies, while Valentine finishes it off with her touching vocal performance and lyrics that are both melancholic and deep. Suited to both night time odysseys or relaxed sunrises, it is a tender hymn that truly resonates. In original form, the fat drums of ‘L.D.O.E.’ prop up those dreamy vocals and a gentle tribal percussion help sink you into a loose groove. The dub is more focussed on the tumbling hits and toms and bouncy drums, and as such is a mid tempo workout that will get you in a lather. Then South African Floyd Lavine—who has released on Dogmatik and Upon. You and played the likes of Watergate and Glastonbury—steps up and pushes the track straight into the void, twisting it into a hypnotic techno chant. Perfect for a rough peak-time approach or the early morning hours when the storm is hitting the coast, this track will haunt you in your dreams through an endless jungle of insanity. With the vocals gone, the dub version is even more direct. This is a fantastically constructed package stuffed with emotive, long lasting house and techno tracks that are brilliantly vivid and evocative. For those in Berlin, there is a connected label night at Watergate on September 21st to mark the release of the last EP with David Mayer, Stereo MCs, K.E.E.N.E and Aaaron b2b Florian Busse.
