Drivetrain is the alias of Derrick Thompson, a Detroit-based DJ/producer and the man behind the always consistent but somewhat criminally overlooked, Soiree Records International label. As anyone who follows either Drivetrain or Soiree know, quality is very much at the heart of all that’s great about both. Derrick’s latest endeavor is a 4 track V/A on Soiree entitled Universal Shift. Featuring his own music as well as that of other underground cats a la Rennie Foster, DJ Roach and Nicolas Franken, it’s another stunning release that pays homage to the motor city in emphatic fashion. From that perspective, Thompson is a fitting inductee to our ‘Back To Mine’ series. His picks reflect his eclecticism too – from techno to house to trip-hop to chill-out, this is quite the playlist…
