Back To Mine with Hugo Barritt

A Tribe Called Quest – Electric Relaxation

Q-Tip is one of the best Hip Hop producers of all time. This track is a perfect example of his skills in finding rare-old Jazz vinyl, and transforming it into new masterpieces.

Kraftwerk – Expo 2000 (kling klang 2000)

Speed this up to 120bpm and you’ve got a sick track to drop in your house set.

The Human League – Things That Dreams Are Made Of (unlimited Orchestra)

Authentic 80’s synth at it’s best.

Che – The Incident

Classic Larry Heard groove, encapsulating the age of promiscuity with saucy lyrics you probably don’t want your grandmother to hear.

Ricardo Villalobos – 808 The Bass Queen

A timeless track for me which I often drop into my sets.

Basic Channel – Lyot Remix

Super trippy and deep, perfect to play back at home after a big night out, and wanting to take things to another level.

Cocoa Tea – I Lost My Sonia

Reggae / Dub has always been a huge part of my Kiwi heritage. Times I visit back there I like to play this on repeat when driving down the New Zealand coastline, under the hot summer sun.

Radiohead – Staircase

My personal Favourite from Radiohead. It gives me goosebumps every time I hear it. Watching these guys play live during sunset at Treptower Park in Berlin was an unforgettable experience.

Azymuth – Jazz Carnival (Global Communication Space Jazz Mix)

Every time I place this someone asks me who it is. I love the positive energy this track gives.

Fred P – It Is What It Is

An incredibly emotive record that pulls emotion out of me. Fred P has and will always be a huge inspiration both as a dj and producer.

Hugo Barritt – Neu Zeta EP (Sonora Records)

Sonora Records has been releasing quality house music and more from the likes of Jay Haze, Wareika, Jus-Ed etc since 2007. For the imprint’s latest signing they turn to Berlin based New Zealander Hugo Barritt for two standout tracks of deepness backed with some impressive remixes.
Barritt has been on the scene for the last seven years releasing music on labels such as Vi- talik, Murmur and No Fit State and building a solid fanbase for his own take on house music. Support from the likes of Leon Vynehall, Midland, Dusky and Ame plus compilation inclusion from Matt Tolfrey and Ryan Crosson has ensured that he has become a producer who can- not be ignored.
This latest release opens with the wonderfully understated ‘Neu Zeta’, featuring organic sounding percussion, deep bass tones and some classic stabs that add instant depth. The remix of this see Lorenzo Dada step up and deliver a respectful and original reworking that gets a little more ‘heads down’ as it digs deep into the groove. The second original, ‘Hullabalo’, sees Barritt continue his journey into deep and dubby territo- ry with a cut that builds around tightly chopped vocal samples and rollin’ drums. To complete the package we have the excellent Whitesquare of 20:20, Culprit and Toy Tonics fame who delves even deeper still with an emotive and hypnotic remix that closes things out in real style.
