Jorge Reyes – A La Izquierda Del Colibrí

One of the gems brought back to life by Emotional Rescue. Trippy, mystic pre-columbian electronics, highly enjoyable

Death In June – The World That Summer

I’m a huge fan of post punk bands. If I had to choose one, I’d go for DiJ. This records sums up their whole spectrum, from apocalyptic folk to martial electronics and noisy experimentation. “Come before christ and murder love” is one of my favourite songs ever.

Aphex Twin – Selected Ambient Works 85-92

I associate this record with Sunday morning hangovers. It is not a cure, but it sure helps. Heliosphan melody is so good is quite demoralizing.

Heavenly Music Corporation – Lunar Phase

One of my last purchases from my favourite record store in Madrid, El Almacén. Ambient music for satellite broadcastings.

Heavenly Music Corporation - Energy Portal (1995)

Walls – Coracle

Kraut-influenced, emotional synth-driven electronics. The Kompakt catalogue is quite impressive. Perfect for home (or elsewhere) listening.

The Books – Lost And Safe

I got to this from my mates on Fira Fem. Field recordings, samples and sound manipulation with a slight ‘pop’ vibe. It leaded me to the use of sonic rather than musical elements, which helps creating a framework for the harmonic parts of the song.

Der Zeltweg – Italian Tapes Industrial Musis 1982-1984 Volume2

I love the compilations of 80s synth wave hidden tunes, like Minimal Wave or this one. Quite weird and obscure tracks.

Esplendor Geométrico – Mekano-Turbo

Industrial heroes from Spain. It works for me when I don’t know what to listen to.

Botch – We Are The Romans

Was into hardcore when I was a kid. My brother gave me this repress for my birthday a couple of years ago. Still makes me clench my teeth.

JackWasFaster, Hayk An, Inner Axes – 001 (Aylevs)

Aylevs Music is a brand-new record label out of Barcelona, founded to explore club focused electronic music with influences ranging from ambient to acid, from house to techno. The imprint kicks off with a standout EP from RBMA Bass Camp Madrid graduates JackWasFaster, Hayk An and Inner Axes. This trio has worked together on a number of projects before now and here they all serve up super solo tracks that inaugurate this promising new label in real style. The release is opened by Hayk An who has worked under other aliases for labels like Lapsus and Neonized and has played his experimental live set at important Spanish festivals such as Sónar Barcelona. With ‘Ovem’ he looks to the club floor with a sophisticated and melancholic house sound that slowly progresses and sucks you in. The drums are dynamic and slick and the chords full of emotion.
The second track is ‘El Topo’ from JackWasFaster, who is in the ranks of the Rotten City label, and has also played live at Sónar Barcelona as well as UVA Festival, among others. His fine effort here is a synthetic tune that was inspired by the catalogue of Running Back with a retro touch. It has breezy melodies that make you feel good, with a rich bassline and loose groove that will pull people to the floor. Inner Axes—a new project in parallel with his other alias Ghostly Enemies—closes the release with the excellent ‘Odyssey’, which is named in honour of the Mars Odyssey.
It’s an atmospheric techno track with mid-tempo drums and dark and melancholic chords and melodies that speak of an intergalactic journey. This is a moving EP filled with house and techno sprinkled with some magic space dust, and marks a great first release for this new label.
