Back to Mine with Joran van Pol

These albums are in random order, all important to me in a different way.

Jon Hopkins – Immunity

I still remember seeing Jon play at Berghain, never heard his music before. I was instantly caught by his liveset. Its so beautiful but dark at the same time. If I close my eyes and listen to this album, I’m on another planet.

Moderat – III

Whats there to add for this album? The Moderat live show might be the best show I’ve seen and the music is simply amazing. So cutting edge.

Hans Zimmer – Interstellar Soundtrack

Like the movie, this soundtrack soundtrack sends me on a trip to space. I can effortless listen through the whole piece without getting bored. It has the right amount of tension building and relaxation in there.

James Holden – Balance 005

This is the most essential compilation ever for me. This set me on a path to gradually produce darker and more minimalistic music. I can’t really grasp why I love this compilation so much, but I must have heard this mix at least a few hundred times.

James Holden - Balance 005 disc 1

Trentemoller – Last Resort

After Balance 005, The last resort album pushed me further down the road of finding my musical identity. Brilliant album. it feels minimalistic, without the use of the cliche minimal sounds.

Opgezwolle – Eigen Wereld

Even if you do not understand the dutch lyrics (which are amazing in textual sense), it is still worth to give this album a listen. I love how they use all kinds of synths in those hiphop beats.

Opgezwolle - 'Hoedenplank' #1

I am Legion – I am Legion

I am Legion is a project of Noisia and Foreign Beggars. I am a huge fan of Noisia and I think their sounddesign is unrivaled. Whenever they put out a record, there will always be sounds that make me think: damn I have never heard that before.

I Am Legion [Noisia x Foreign Beggars] - Intro

Tiesto – Magik 7 Los Angeles

Before you think: oh but this is trance and commercial, listen to the mix. This has nothing to do with what Tiesto is doing today. I was 11 when this mix cd came out and this one really pulled me into listening to electronic music. It made me realize what the power of putting together a great mix was.

Tiesto - Magik Seven - Live in Los Angeles / Insigma - Open Your Eyes (Original Insigma Mix)

Queen – Greatest Hits Vol. 3

You either hate or love Queen. My parents are huge fans, so this is record got played a lot when I was young.

Queen - The Show Must Go On (Radio Edit)

Pink Floyd – Dark Side Of The Moon

Kind of the same story as with the Queen record. Amazing music, and so ahead of its time. If you think about the time when this record was released and what kind of sounds they’re using, thats just mind bending to me.

Pink Floyd - Dark Side Of The Moon

joranvan-pol-cover-1024Joran van Pol -Verge EP(inc Luigi Madonna remix) (FADE)

Acclaimed Amsterdam techno DJ / producer Joran van Pol is stepping out with his own brand new label. He marks the first release with a brilliant brace of his own cuts plus an on point remix from Italian producer Luigi Madonna.
The label will follow this same MO—originals from van Pol and a guest remix— with each new release and comes after van Pol has already made a name for himself with searing techno productions on labels like Minus, Rejected, Sci+Tec and Ideal Audio. The Dutch DJ/producer first burst through with big support from tastemakers like Riche Hawtin and Dubfire and tracks like ‘Sonic Highway’ have seen him work with legend & fellow countryman Joris Voorn. Now having played all over the world from ENTER at Space Ibiza to TimeWarp festival, he is well armed with plenty of ideas and some surefire skills that will help him shake up the global techno scene.
This excellent EP kicks off with ‘Verge,’ a rib rattling techno track designed to fill full warehouses with sound. It is an industrial tinged effort with plenty of drama and tension in its creeping synths and rolling drums, and exactly typifies van Pol’s singular aesthetic.
In the hands of Luigi Madonna, a Drumcode and Plus 8 veteran who rolls out big hitters on a regular basis, the track is imbued with some emotive vocal cries and bulkier drums. Big hi hat ringlets add scale and the whole thing is truly fiery and attention grabbing.
Rounding out a fantastic EP is ‘Reduce’, a more stripped back and creepy techno tune full of dark and absorbing atmosphere, unsettling synth undercurrents and brooding, body shaking drums. It really is one that will grab the attention of the ‘floor.
