Back To Mine with Leonardo

Trippy night in at mine? Sure. Here’s what’s on the stereo….

IGNACIO RODRIGUEZ – PATINAJE INTERIOR

A beautiful record by hang drummer and percussionist Ignacio Rodriguez. I came across his albums while travelling through the Sacred Valley in Peru and heard his music playing it in a cafe I visited in Pisac. All his work is lovely.

BOARDS OF CANADA – COLD EARTH

The album ‘Tomorrows Harvest’ is a favourite of mine. It’s super mind expansive, like a sonic explosion. ‘Cold Earth’ is particularly great.

PINK FLOYD – THE GREAT GIG IN THE SKY

A go to album to get lost in. The vocal on this track captivating and the story behind it inspiring.

NIRVANA – THE MAN WHO SOLD THE WORLD (UNPLUGGED IN NEW YORK)

Brings back memories of being lost in freedom as a young teenager totally oblivious to any kind of responsibility. My friend brother played the CD a lot, it’s stuck with me since then.

LTJ BUKEM – HORIZONS

Spacey, jazzy and trippy drum & bass. Amongst my all time favourite records. Youthful and liberating.

SANTANA – BLACK MAGIC WOMAN

I remember my mum playing Santana in the house when I was a kid. The rhythms and melodies are infectious and great to get lost in. There’s a real depth in their music, it’s mind altering.

FUTURE SOUND OF LONDON – CASCADE (LIFE FORMS PARTS 1 – 2)

Life Forms is an album better appreciated from start to finish so picking out one track is tricky. ‘Cascade’ is near the beginning and sets the vibe off nicely. A trippy excursion.

TAME IMPALA – LUCIDITY

Fantastic track, love the fx and sound of their production. Real fitting for the occasion.

BOB MARLEY – EXODUS

This one gets me grinning like a Cheshire cat – pure feel good vibes. Gets everyone in the rhythm.

MARSHALL JEFFERSON VS NOOSA HEADS – MUSHROOMS (SALT CITY ORCHESTRA OUT THERE MIX)

Classic lush deep house, another of my all time favourites. Love the vocal and groove and percussion in this track. Airtight was a really good label for this sound, I miss it.
