Back To Mine with Marcus Knight

Marcus Knight has nearly two decades of experience in the Dance music industry. The Australian born DJ/Producer has travelled the world performing to packed-out venues and has worked with some industry titans such as Carl Cox, Armand Van Helden, Marshall Jefferson, Mighty Dub Katz, Timberland, Roland Clark, Missy Elliot, Lenny Fontana, DJ Pierre, Space Cowboys, Jessica Mauboy, Ginuwine, Mr V and many more. We caught up with Marcus to learn a bit more about the music which he feels is most important in his life and why.

1. Laurent Garnier – Man With The Red Face

This record creates magical visuals and storyline filled with drama like very few instrumental dance tracks. Slamming tune!

2. The Shapeshifters – Lola’s Theme

I’ve always appreciated how this record embraces the finest influences of Disco, House and Soul. It’s the sort of record that could easily convert someone to appreciate house music.

3. Armand van Helden – The Funk Phenomena

I loved this record for its ability to change the room. People just start dancing and acting differently in their own unique way.

4. Hardrive – Deep Inside

Still one of the most recognised vocal hooks in House music after all these years. Still hope for us all in the shower!

5. Mighty Dub Katz – Magic Carpet Ride

One of the great grooves not to mention the sample of The Chakachas – Yo Soy Cubano is just fantastic.

6. Sgt. Slick – White Treble, Black Bass

Timeless Australian dance classic from 1998 I still love playing to this day. Such a feel good record!

7. Guy Gerber – You Can Have Him

Cracking tune, with some great musical elements. I remember the first time I heard it and loving the tension between each section wondering what would come up next.

8. Oliver $ – Doin’ Ya Thang

House music with attitude, the man is giving voice to everything a DJ would like to say to an audience which is damn cool.

9. Dennis Ferrer – Hey Hey

At the height of EDM, Hey Hey managed to give a voice to House music which was so important. Production was minimal which enabled the melody and lyrics to express their full message in lyrics and attitude.

10. Eric Prydz – Slammin

A great main room display of house music with Prydz’s trademark bassline movement I still rate highly. I occasionally play this and love the look on people’s faces when it jogs their memory.
