Back To Mine with Neue Grafik

1. Untold – Stop What You’re Doing (James Blake Remix)

This song slaps me in the face again and again… It’s more than a simple remix, it’s a perpetual build up with an incredible feeling, full of soul and instinct. It has been a big personnal inspiration since the first time I heard it.

2. Emma Jean Thackray – Red Bush

The perfect track for a breakfast in your home, sensual and simply beautiful. This track from my arranger and trumpeter EJ is a perfect slow burner.

3. De La Soul – Stakes Is High (J Dilla Remix)

Weird chord progressions and high level of MCing. I can listen this beat for ages! The detail of the soft trumpet in the background when the chorus comes… So high!

4. Dizzee Rascal – 2 Far (feat. Wiley)

And every tracks from Boy In Da Corner, this song and others (Stop Dat, Wot U On, Hold Ya Mouf, I Luv U, Liv O…) has raised a real awareness. Londonian youthfulness, violent lyrics, weird synthetic instruments, raw slang and rhythm from another space. Still fascinating.

5. Skye – Ain’t No Need

One of my favorite soul/funk track. I’ve discovered this song few years ago in Dimension Festival, during a Theo Parrish’s set. Joy and happiness. A good pill to forget your problems.

Skye - Ain't No Need (DJ Nick The Record Part 1 & 2 Re-United Re-Edit)

6. Bauhaus – Bela Lugosi’s Dead

Tremendous track. It’s one of my first love in the rock music and I play it each time I’ve got the opportunity.

Bauhaus - Bela Lugosi's Dead (Original)

7. Ahmad Jamal – Swahililand

Hard to speak about it and don’t give a word on Jamal Plays Jamal, one of the best album of all time. And this song is so cinematographic. When I listen to it properly, I have some pictures on my mind of an explorer discovering a mysterious country in Africa. Lit!

8. Theo Parrish – Smile

Loving too many tracks from this avant garde artist, not easy to make a choice. Lost Angel, Paradise Architecture, Children Of The Drums, Falling Up, Carpet People, Make No War, Solitary flight, Love Is War For Miles… and many others! When I discovered the house world and the house dancers in 2013, I was impressed by this music, nobody thinks or produces music with guts like him. I can’t hide the large legacy and respect than I have for this man.

Theo Parrish - Smile

9. Son Of Scientist – Keep It Burning

Just another nervous track from the master, IG Culture on his side project SOS. Like Theo Parrish hard to make a choice! But this one can burn every dancefloor, even for an after! Bad Man Ting!

10. Makaya McCraven – Slightest Right

This release just change my perception of the jazz music. Hard to find the perfect balance between a jazz album and smart production. You have few albums/projects which find it out (Culross Close or Madlib’s Shade of Blue for example). But this one got something more spontaneous, a big gut feeling.

Neue Grafik has been building a strong rep for himself over the past few years, releasing records previously on labels such as Rhythm Section, 22a and Wolf Music. His sound is a hybrid of jazz, house, broken beat and hip hop, all with his unique geographical flavours of African ethnicity, Parisian roots and a love for London thrown into the mix.

Neue Grafik – I Miss Something / Bed Stuy’s Mood (CoOp Presents)

Following on from the three highly-acclaimed CoOp Presents ‘Selectors Assemble’ compilation EPs from the past year, it’s now time to focus on some of the individual talents from the ever-evolving movement. As the international foundation grows, we invite aboard the extremely talented Neue Grafik into the fold. French producer, instrumentalist and DJ, Neue Grafik, has been building a strong rep for himself over the past few years, releasing records previously on labels such as Rhythm Section, 22a and Wolf Music. His sound is a hybrid of jazz, house, broken beat and hip hop, all with his unique geographical flavours of African ethnicity, Parisian roots and a love for London thrown into the mix. So to the music – two brand new tracks, ‘I Miss Something’ and ‘Bed Stuy’s Mood’, complete with remixes from EVM128, Danvers, Xtra Bruk andNameBrandSound (aka label bosses IG Culture & Alex Phountzi) respectively, making this one essential package for the bruk soldiers and beyond.

In Neue’s words…
“I remember the first time I was at a CoOp party and met IG – I just said something like “unbelievable party, well done! Thank you, man”. I didn’t expect to be a part of this brilliant family a few months after that; it’s totally insane to think about it now.
I began to hang properly with the CoOp fam during a DJ session at The Flex in East London. I was so happy to live in this moment; surrounded by these talented performers, artists and producers, excitedly talking about unreleased music on everyone’s USB sticks.
This EP is a personal vision of the broken beat scene and my love for that. A meeting with artists who build my own taste, with friends keeping the same vibrancy and desire for this music. ‘I Miss Something’ and ‘Bed Stuy’s Mood’ are two tracks dedicated to Porte Des Lilas (Paris), and Bedford-Stuyvesant (New York). One was made in my house, the other on holiday. These two tracks, as well as the remixes from the Selectors Assemble crew, represent a real and deep friendship.”

More essential music from the CoOp Presents camp, available on limited vinyl and all digital services. Don’t sleep.
