I first discovered the music of René & Angela while playing GTA Vice City with their song I’ll Be Good. I Love You More is another classic from the pair – chunky, funky, driving, emotive and a musical masterpiece to top it all off.
Patrice Rushen – Haven’t You Heard
On point groove and energy is one way to describe this feel good upbeat song. Patrice Rushen’s back catalog of music is a treasure chest for beautiful soul music that has been many a samplers dream over the years and something worth diving into.
The Police – Voices Inside My Head
I first heard this song in a skate video in the early 2000s, featuring cool rhythm elements, guitars and Sting’s eerie voice, all adding up to a surprisingly soulful track from The Police.
The Cinematic Orchestra ft. Roots Manuva – All Things To All Men
This 10 minute journey just keeps going and gives rise to a range of emotions and colours. The moving lyrics from Roots Manuva are the icing on the cake on top of a breathtaking instrumental that gives you the chills.
Kalabrese Feat. Sarah Palin – Kafi Lied
Absolutely love this gem from Kalabrese. It has the feel of a live jam giving it a laid back, playful vibe.
Bonobo – Cirrus
This masterpiece needs little introduction. Definitely one of the best tracks from the last decade. We actually ended our first ever Stereo.type set with this track and works just as well at home as it does in a club.
Jimi Hendrix – Little Wing
Jimi Hendrix was a genius not just for his guitar playing skills but also his ability to create such rich melodies and harmonies in his music. This is demonstrated here in one of my favourite guitar intros of all time.
Sia – Breathe Me (Mylo Remix)
I fell in love with this song when I was first falling for Dance Music back in 2004. Such a simple but effective track and I love Sia’s haunting voice.
Stereo.type – Wasting Time EP (Get Physical Music)
Stereo.type return to Get Physical with three more thrilling house cuts after their recent success on the label’s Words Don’t Come Easy Pt. 6 compilation with the classic house track ‘Visions’’ feat Felix Raphael.
The UK/Irish born, Berlin based pair are known for their energetic sets full of big grooves at cult clubs like Watergate and Kater Blau and often host the Get Physical radio show. Their productions that have an indefinable uniqueness and universal appeal and that shines through once again on this superb new EP.
Their first track here, the wonderful ‘Wasting Time,’ features Felix Raphael and is a deep cut and mid-tempo house warmer with turbulent bass and synths that twist and turn throughout the mix, bringing a sense of tension that makes it all the more compelling as breathy vocals add a trippy feel.
Next up is ‘Rumors,’ a lighter and airier house track. Here the long-legged drums and free-spirited synth stabs drift about in charming, curious ways as the whole thing really casts a spell.
Last but not least, ‘Others’ is a big-hearted deep house cut with little neon synths and acid stabs that soothe your soul. It’s an enchanting late-night affair that is for getting lost in.
These are three mature, musical house tracks from one of the most interesting duos in the game.’
