L.U.C.A – il Valzer Del Risveglio

I could have picked any of the 10 tracks off this incredible LP. The vibe throughout sits somewhere beautiful between Balearic, Psychedelic & Downtempo, I’ve not heard anything like it. its easily one of my favourite records of the last couple of years.

L.U.C.A. - Il Valzer Del Risveglio

F.T.R.M – Lost (PG Goes Dance)

Stunning track. Never get bored playing it & holds a lot of nostalgia for me. Most definitely got a summer feel to it.

Boncana Maïga – Koyma Hondo

If your into Afro Funk/Latin soul, this is as good as it gets. The Arrangement is just phenomenal. The Vinyl is well worth a buy, Really interesting biography on the cover & The other tracks are outstanding too.

Nirvana – Oh Me

One of the first ever albums I can remember really hitting a nerve was Nirvana  Unplugged in New York. Only recently just bought this again on vinyl, and it hasn’t had much time off the turntable. Oh me I think gets overlooked sometimes surrounded by all the classics, such a brilliant track with typically amazing guitar riffs.

Dissmentado – The TT

Huntleys + Palmers are one of my favourite labels, always diverse and surprising. The recent LP by Dissmentado equally was brilliant, this track in particular.

Grace Jones – My Jamaican Guy

I can see why this has been sampled so much. So many layers.  All the elements are so well crafted.

Connan Mockasin – Forever Dolphin Love (Erol Alkan Extended Rework)

A good mate of mine gave me this record a while back, its really beautiful. Especially this Alkan rework. Has some really nice reverb going on, great atmospheric feel to it and some cool XX esque guitars late on.

Mac De Marco – On a Level

Mac’s album this old dog blew my mind. Its pretty flawless in my opinion.  Again, really hard to pick one track the whole record is that good. This track just proves you don’t need a ton of elements to make something sound amazing.

Psychemagik – Sister of the Moon

Lovely track. Great guitars and really nice brass/horns. Builds so well throughout and the ending is just brilliant.

Tecwaa – We Are All Giants (Clouded Vision)

The fantastic first Clouded Vision Recordings release of 2018 comes from label newcomer Paul Fawcett, AKA Tecwaa, with a remix by label boss Matt Walsh.
Fawcett is a DJ and musician from York with influences from the rave scenes of Leeds and North Yorkshire, Detroit techno and film scores. He has already released on the likes of Frigio Records, and the four original tracks of his excellent EP here were recorded with analogue instruments, layered percussion, guitars and piano. Together that creates spaced out soundscapes that capture a hypnotic and emotive element throughout, with a wash of delayed pads and eerie instrumentals adding to the effect.
Opener ‘Always & The End’ is eight deeply involving minutes of slow-motion house with beautiful pads and widescreen atmospheres that really sucks you in. The fantastic ‘Night Moves’ then picks up the pace a little with percolating grooves, soft acid lines and analogue hits that all make for a loveably loose, emotive musical groove whilst ‘Remember the Clear Light’ gets a little darker and more angsty, with scintillating percussion and broad, droning pads bringing a real sense of tension to this spiritual track. The final standout original is ‘In Shadows’, another superb mix of synthetic sound design and organic chords that is filled with detail as a slow, pensive rhythm emerges.
On remix duty is label owner Matt Walsh, an esteemed producer with a varied and vital sound. He brings the tempo of the first track ‘Always & The End’ up a notch, adding a new bass guitar line and a plethora of warped sounds and broken percussion.
