Guz

1. Funky Green Dogs – Fired Up

Awesome classic from the nineties. I was just 12 back then and listening to Eurodance most of the time, but I could hear this was a timeless classic. Recently there has been some shitstorm because of the sample Detlef used from the original, but gotta say Detlef’s tune is great to in it’s own way. The vocal is just something else. In 10 years there will be at least 5 other remakes I am sure.

2. Carlos – The Silmarillia

Around the millennium change I used to listen and produce trance a lot. This one is so timeless. I think it’s made by one of the guys behind Rank 1 and 4 Strings, so it’s not a miracle this tune is such a beast. Still listen to this every now and then and I’m sure it could be played again in a house set too.

3. Black Van – Inside (Oliver Remix)

I’m a big fan of oldskool nu disco kinda house. Kris Menace, Lifelike, all that. At some point around 2010/2011 there was a big hype where everybody pushed out slow disco influenced tunes, such as the early Hot Creations tunes and stuff Diynamic was putting out back then. I’ve always been a sucker for major feel-good melodies and this tune blew all of the other tunes in that era away for me. I remember I played a gig in Macedonia and the crowd was having a great time. The promoter wanted me to play harder and harder during the night, and that was a smart move, but I forgot to play this tune in the beginning. So when the lights went on at 5 AM I turned it on, from the start, the filtered bass intro, at least 10 BPM slower than the end of the set. What a vibe that was. Continued for another hour with Discopolis and classics like that, memories memories. Oliver is a crazy producer duo by the way, quality to the max. Worth checking out every tune they put out ever.

4. Rogerseventytwo – You Take Me Higher

This track is not so old as well, but for me the perfect example of disco sampling the right way. It’s released on A-Trak’s Fools Gold. I didn’t even pick it up at the time, only discovered it years later. I was in Miami for MMW 2016 and arrived on the mondaynight. Before taking a nap between the flight and the kick-off on Tuesday we went for Taco’s at the famous Coyo Taco in Wynwood. It was Murk Monday in their little club and Oscar G was playing. Suddenly this sample came on but my Shazam was bugging so I could just record a small clip with the recorder. Looked for the tune online that night and played it 6 parties in a row. Tune of the set everywhere. Still playing the track by the way.

5. Hollis P. Monroe – I’m Lonely

Same thing as the Funky Green Dogs tune. In between all the Eurodance this tune kept being on my radiotapes. Years later and more musically skilled I noticed how crazy good this record is. The beauty of the string chords, the weird acid kinda melody and then this timeless voice. Everytime year I feel like doing a little rework, then to decide I better leave the legacy as it is.
