Back To Mine with Jorge Montiel

After hours grooving at the best after parties on the planet…

1. ‘Morning Side of Love’ – Chico Hamilton

I love the analogue atmosphere of this tune, Chico Hamilton is also a master at using reverb on his tracks and this is one of the best examples for me.

2. ‘Oh Que Sera’ – Willie Colon
From my point of view, this tune is a master piece. It wasn’t originally written by Willie Colon but the way that he has re- arranged it is incredible!

3. ‘Cachaca Mecanica’ – Erasmos Carlos/Os Supernovas
I really like the overall progression of this tune from something quiet to a more groovy mood.

4. ‘Inside & Out’ –  Joe Claussell
I hear a lot of Chico Hamilton’s vibe in some of the stuff Joe Claussell produces and I find it very interesting the fact of seeing or hearing, how the different schools of sounds transcend and fuse through time to create new forms.

5. ‘Cachete a Cachete’ – Los Amigos Invisibles
Los Amigos are never absent from any of my sets – I always play their stuff! They are such a model example of Latin fusion:-)

6. ‘Dana’s Dream’ – Los Charly’s Orchestra
This tune didn’t get so much attention, but I really consider it one of the deepest compositions we’ve put together. The Trumpet intro is very Donald Bird style, and our friend Dana delivers her dreamy add libs – so refreshing.

7. ‘If You Want Me To Stay’ – Sly & The Family Stone
This tune is so peaceful but yet funky and soulful at the same time. It’s like dancing in a cloud!

8. ‘Brother On The Slide’ – Cymande
I prefer not to say much about this one. Let the music speak for itself 🙂

9. ‘Keep It Up’ – Milton Wright
It must be played at the after party – groovy times!

10. ‘Easy To Love’ – Leo Sayer
This tune always reminds me of the last hours of the party at SOSHO, which used to be my favourite venue and a top hangout for some quality Disco stuff. It brings back so many great memories, as Leo’s vocals are so sharp and the strings just lift you up!

Los Charly’s Orchestra release their new ‘Rediscovering The Big Apple’  album on Imagenes Recordings. Featuring the singles ‘My Barrio’ and ‘Al Ritmo Del Latin Funk’, which are on their way to becoming modern day classics, as hailed by Radio 6’s Craig Charles (The Funk n’ Soul show), Dimitri from Paris, Cafe del Mar’s Jose Padilla (Ibiza) and Joey Negro, whose ‘Disco Funk EP’ re-edits is one of LCO’s most collectable 12” vinyl releases. Definitely Ones To Watch and catch them Live on Saturdays @ Floridita, Wardour Street, W1. All info…
