Back To Mine with Phil Asher

Late night grooving at the best after hour parties in town

01. MFSB – Love is the Message
Probably one of my favourite pieces of music ever made, it represents everything I love about music. Arrangement, melody, musicianship are all amazing plus all my friends, love this tune.

02. Black Sabbath – Planet Caravan
The first time I heard this loud was when Ricky L played it at the Red Zone in Italy. I bought a 12″ in Dopejams in Brooklyn, then played it at my Coffee shop Party at the Kadisky in Amsterdam, It reminds me of my world travels, Ozzy at his best in my humble opinion.

03. Helen Reddy – Angie Baby
I was recently reintroduced to this amazing 70’s production and song by someone amazing, I love a song that tells a story that can span eras. Helen Reddy, underrated songstress, what a voice!

04. Grace Jones – Private Life (Vocal & Dub)
The compass point sessions – undoubtedly one of the best rhythm sections ever; Sly Dunbar & Robbie Shakespeare with Grace Jones. Enuff Said! She is Awesome, great late night song written by Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders.

05. Jose Feliciano – California Dreamin’
Another one of my all time favourites, Takes me right back to when I was a kid and I still play this regularly. It’s a romantic story of a beautiful place which could be anywhere…this time it’s home.

06. D’wala – Coldsmoked
Proper late night mayhem for a man my age…Detroit meets Harrow & Wealdstone. Multi talented D’wala blends world rhythms with hypnotic sounds, If this doesn’t liven up the dance I don’t know what will.

07. Pablo All Stars – East Of The River Nile (Version)
No after hours is complete without a bit of dub! I’m a novice and therefore don’t know anything about dub, but I do love learning and collecting it! Big love to my teachers Ben Torrens & Honest Jon’s…Killer swing on this dub!

08. Minnie Riperton – Only When I’m Dreaming
Because it would be rude not to !! Minnie Riperton is anytime of the day artist, 365 days of the year 24/7. In fact, we should have Minnie Riperton day, I love her!

09. Boogie Down Productions – Love’s Gonna Get’cha (Material Love)
Co-produced by Pal Joey, Krs1 tells an enigmatic day in a life style story…it has a hypnotic bassline that accompanies. Gotta have the blastmaster at every party!

10. Manuel Gottsching – E2-E4
Perfect soundscape to start or end your late night soiree. Incredible guitar and effects, long enough to play a game of chess or draughts to. If somebody does get a chess board out instead of listening to the beauty of this piece, you might want to go to number 9, or back to yours…
