Back To Mine with Underdogs

The Underdogs DJ crew and party have brought the freshest house music to Rio de Janeiro for the last four years. The collective now branches out with an exciting new label featuring Bernardo Campos, ICLE, and Bruce Leroys, plus a remix from Tigerskin on new release ‘Connected’. Bernardo Campos is a new addition who brings a wealth of experience to the Underdogs collective. He is one of Rio’s most notable DJs, and his music often gets played by the likes of Maya Jane Coles and Maceo Plex. He is also one half of Nu Azeite, who released a stunning debut album on Cocada Music in January 2021. That record found favour with everyone from BBC Radio 1 to DJ Seinfeld, Tim Sweeney, and Horse Meat Disco. ICLE is a core Underdogs resident who makes his long-awaited production debut here. Completing the line-up for this EP is Bruce Leroys, the Brazilian pair of Marcelo Abreu and Diogo Vaille. They have more than 20 years of DJ experience and have produced many Beatport Chart-toppers, including the last outing ‘Dos Cuerpos’ on Wired. Ricardo Villalobos has remixed their work, and they have also released on Armada, Get Physical and Kittball, amongst others. A perfect opportunity to grab two spicy Back To Mine set lists…

Bernardo’s 5

Moby – Play

Moby is a genius. This album features some of his best work, ‘Porcelain’ included which is one of the best downtempo tracks ever made. It’s one of those records you just play it from beginning to end and it feels like everything fits together.

Jamiroquai – Emergency on Planet Earth

What to say about the debut album from Jamiroquai? Just sit down listen to it and get ready for this amazing  acid jazz trip in this funk odyssey.

Thievery Corporation – Saudade

Thievery’s ‘Saudades’ features a lot of tracks with vocals from Karina. She is Brazilian, like us, and it adds something special to the already amazing music these guys make. Just a delightful album all around, mixing Electronic music with elements of latin music and more.

Nu Azeite – Nu Azeite

My new Project with Fabio Santana that has been storming the scene. Mixing Brazilian music with Funk, Disco and Soul. All 100% original. It’s modern Brazilian music and this first album is pretty amazing (if I say so myself! Fulll album link: https://open.spotify.com/album/5VBBCi1UlapPGNAHAshSdk?si=O1esrI4STFKJp7I540uFuQ

Nu Azeite - "Vem Com Noix"

Sandra de Sá – Vale Tudo

Just a classic Brazilian Soul album from the 80’s. Maybe the best from her. It represents very well our city, Rio de Janeiro.

Morgado’s 5….

Pink Floyd – Pulse

One of the first recordings I bought, and still one of my favourites to listen to. A live recording that sounds much better than a studio album, a two sided disc that contains first the Dark side of the moon executed in it’s entirety, and on side two a selection of songs from other albums that mainly includes “Wish you were here” and “The Wall”. It’s like progressive rock basic school.

Miles Davis – Sketches of Spain

Even though I started with his iconic Kind of Blue album, I was so really affected by the finishing song from it “Flamenco sketches” that mixes up his unique jazz signature style with flamenco that became my favourite from the álbum. Soon I discovered that he had made an entirely flamenco record one year after, getting his passion for the style and harmonic scales to the next level and it became my favorite.

Air – Moon Safari

I came in contact with this record by the “Sexy Boy” vídeo in 1998 during a trip to Paris, watching TV as a teenager at my hotel. I became mesmerized by the mix of beats and electric guitar, sounding so oddly French. A couple of months later I had the full album. Since I am a lover of the French touch, this is my definitive record from a band that’s so essential for the style to listen at my home.

Tim Maia – Racional Vol. 1 and 2

Imagine having one of the most genius musicians, multi-instrumentists, in your living room singing as best as he could with the tightest possible band in the prime of his creativity. That’s what you get in those 2 volumes, Tim Maia totally focused with no drugs and alcolhol abuse totally inspired by a sect/religion that was kind of a hoax but who cares?

Tim Maia - Racional (Volumes 1 e 2) [Álbum Completo]

John Mayer – Room for Squares

When I first lived in the US back in 2001 I got into John Mayer’s work, and luckily could even listen to his demo and get to see him play a bit back in those days. The album is one of my favorites to just sit down and relax, it has such amazing songs, such well played and well written and composed.
