Chris Brann / Ananda Project

Keith Jarrett ‘Koln Concert’
Purely improvised piano at one of the peaks of Jarretts career. Quite masterful.

Steve Reich ‘Music For 18 Musicians’
The blueprint for much modern music. Never gets old.

David Sylvian ‘Secrets of the Beehive’
….Well, this is really tied with ‘Gone to Earth’, these are the best albums in his catalogue to me. Stark, naked and contemplative. Strings and horn arrangements by Sakamoto.

Pat Metheny Group ‘Offramp’
‘Are You Going With Me’ just about sums up what I like about music….in a single song.

Kate Bush ‘Hounds of Love’
Probably one of the best female producers of the 20th century. This was done at the peak of the Fairlight CMI revolution in the mid-80’s. The depth of her tonal palette is amazing.

Steve Tibbetts ‘Northern Song’
This album always brings me back to the center. I heard Steve hates it and won’t listen to it.

Serge Gainsbourg ‘Historie de Melody Nelson’
Perfectly captures Serge’s uniqueness as an artist. Incredible arrangements, guitars and recording.

YMO ‘Naughty Boys’
Sakamoto, Hosono, and Takeshi at the peak of their YMO success. I first heard this from a friend of mine who was the son of the Japanese consulate in Atlanta. I was probably 14 at the time. It really changed the way I looked at pop music.

Eberhard Weber ‘Silent Feet’
Chamber Jazz is what I think they were calling it. When I need a dose of mid 70’s Germaness, this is what I put on.

Chic Corea ‘Return to Forever’
A totally groundbreaking album. Featuring my favourite musical couple, Flora and Airto. Chic really got it right on this one.

Ananda Project’s Fire Flower Album is out now on Nite Grooves/King Street.
