Jakes (Hench Records)

01. MOBB DEEP – QUIET STORM – MURDA MUZIK
The first time i heard this tune i was sat in a car waiting for a friend.  Queens Bridge at it’s finest doing what they do best. When you hear the piano on the intro you know it’s going to be something special. The raw uncut.

02. THE STREETS – BLINDED BY THE LIGHTS
I  think few can paint a picture of drug life like Mr Skinner. No one can come close. One foot in garage an the other somewhere in a house rave. Outstanding track from an outstanding album.

03. ST GERMAIN – ROSE ROUGE
Acid jazz, jazz house call it what you like but this piece of music will always be on my hard drive and vinyl collection. A beat thats so loose you need to tie it down backed up with muted horns and sax. “I want you to get together”.

04. ORBITAL – CHIME
I have no idea where i first heard this but i was there at Glastonbury 04 and yes i too want specs with lights on. Proper oldskool tunage right here. Let the synths take control. One for the pipe an slippers cru.

05. BUSTA RHYMES – WOO HA /  GOT YOU ALL IN CHECK
Busta was amazing before this banger came out but when it did people really took notice. A kind of toy piano behind a heavy beat an live bass with the Rhymes at the helm. Classic…. “Woo Ha!”

06. EVIL 9 – CROOKED
“Shhhhhhhhh the baby is sleeping” Aesop Rock is either a genius or insane. I like to think hes a genius. Tom and Pat came correct with this one skippy beat and heavy bass. One of my alltime fave breaks edged tunes and a Bristol anthem.

07. SPACEK –  CURVATIA
My brother lent me the Curvatia album an then had to give me a dead arm to get it back. Not R & B or Trip Hop or Soul but a mixture of all these things an something else in its own right. If you EVER buy an album make it this one.

08. RICK ROSS – EVERYDAY I’M HUSSALIN
Kat Willims the comedian opened my eyes to this one. A favorite of mine and Speed’s from Pendulum. Sounds of the duuuuuuurdy south. Get you Hussle on.

09. ULTRAVOX – VIENNA
Now this one is special to me. It was the first time i really took note of synthesizers. The break down an little synth solo shook me. Everytime i got to Vienna this track always pops into my head.  “It means nothing to meeeeeeeee!”

10. S.O.A.D – CHOP SUEY – SONY/B.M.G
You’ll find me either in a mosh pit or in the corner trying to look like a bad boy. When this tune is on you’ll find me in the pit. Infact i’d be the one elbowing you in the chin. At 4 am it is a great way to annoy the neighbours. Great band and a great song.
