Sunlightsquare

Claudio Passavanti gives us an insight into the tunes played in his Sunlight pad of an eve..

1) Artist: Kraftwerk – Album: The Robots – Track: Skylab
I was 6 at the time (1978) and I had seen this band on TV… I immediately asked my parents to buy me that record and spent endless hours flying badly built Lego space ships to the futuristic rhythm of this track. Still one of my absolute favourites today.

2) Artist: Rockets – Album: On The Road Again – Track: On The Road Again
The Rockets were a progressive french band from the 70’s, remember them? They were bald and covered in silver paint. Yes, as a little kid I was
both terrified and amazed by them.

3) Artist: Carlos Santana – Album: Earth’s Cry Heaven’s Smile – Track: Europa
I know this is well cheesy… but hey, we’re back to my place, this is my turntable, and this is what I wanna play!

4) Artist: Quincy Jones – Album: 7 inch 1973 – Track: Summer In The City
Now this is class, mate 😉

5) Artist: Quincy Jones – Album: Q’s Jook Joint – Track: Rock With You
Ok I admit, Quincy is the biggest influence in my music. I can’t remember a time when I was not fixated with one of is tracks and played it incessantly… You know how sometimes you listen back to old records and say “mmm this is so out of fashion now…”? Well that’s not gonna happen tonight, ‘coz Q is on.

6) Artist: Swing Out Sister – Album: Kaleidoscope World – Track: You On My Mind
Orchestra, orchestra, orchestra. I wish I had produced this track myself… Sophisticated, modern, traditional, memorable, tasteful, fun. Great. What happened to them anyway?

7) Artist: Eddie Palmieri – Album: Vamonos Pa’l Monte – Track: Vamonos Pa’l Monte
I just had to select a classic from Fania Records. Can you imagine what it must have been like to live in N.Y. in the late sixties /
early seventies? Yes N.Y, the cradle of some of the beast avant-garde music ever conceived. I think that the influence of afro-cuban music is also what made Soul & R&B so special in America. Viva el cultural melting pot.

8) Artist: Röyksopp – Album: Melody A.M. – Track: Eple
The future of electronic music is in good hands. Thanks Norway.

9) Artist: Zero Seven – Album: Simple Things – Track: Destiny
Have I made it to your heart yet?

10) Artist: Miles Davis – Album: Kind Of Blue – Track: Blue In Green
Come on, kiss me now.

Sunlightsquare ‘Let’s Groove’ single will be released on August 3rd 2009 on Sunlightsquare Records.
