Back To Mine With Dan Azzo

Already an established fixture on the Australian house music scene as a DJ, Dan Azzo now announces his debut single “Perfect Love,” teaming up with award-winning Papua New Guinea-born R&B and future soul singer-songwriter Ngaiire. A true figurehead in Sydney’s nightlife, Dan is a resident of Club Above at Ivy—Sydney’s biggest and most iconic club—has performed at Defected NYE, and is scheduled for the upcoming  Glitterbox Australasia tour.  DMCWorld goes Back To Mine with Dan Azzo.

Madonna – Hung Up

This immediately takes me back to Coachella one year, kicking on at the hotel. Produced by Stuart Price, who has been instrumental in shaping the sound of contemporary music, it features that iconic ticking intro. If that’s not enough, it also samples ABBA’s “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!”

Armand Van Helden – I Want Your Soul

Let’s talk about THIS timeless classic. Since hearing it on a 2008 Ministry of Sound Annual album (hello, old), I’ve been obsessed with both the track and Armand. Sampling “Do You Want It Right Now” by Siedah Garrett, it’s pure joy.

Evelyn Thomas – High Energy

With its powerful vocals and empowering lyrics, it not only defined the Hi-NRG genre in the 80s but also resonated so deeply within the LGBTQ+ community. With Evelyn’s recent passing, the track remains a much-loved anthem, symbolising light and liberation in queer culture.

Hercules & Love Affair – Blind (Frankie Knuckles Remix)

I’m not sure what to say about this one, as both Frankie Knuckles and Hercules & Love Affair need no introduction. ANOHNI’s emotional vocals, combined with Knuckles’ legendary production, fill me with utmost hope and happiness.

Janet Jackson – If (Brothers In Rhythm House Mix)

Janet MF Jackson. A pop hit turned house masterpiece, this remix not only elevated the original but also bridged the gap between the mainstream and underground dance scene. And it still slaps.

Ultra Naté – Free (Full Intention Club Mix)

I dare you not to sing along at the top of your voice while jumping around with your mates, arm around shoulder.

Tina Arena – Chains (S&M Radio Edit)

Now, please stand for the Australian national anthem. It’s actually blasphemy not to play a version of “Chains” at an Aussie afters, and this one is hot.

Sheryl Lee Ralph – In The Evening

Before Abbott Elementary, Sheryl Lee Ralph was a Broadway star-turned-disco diva. As it says, “In The Evening” is like magic—it’s theatrical and the epitome of 80s disco.

Whitney Houston – Million Dollar Bill (Frankie Knuckles Club Mix)

I won’t apologise for a second Frankie remix, especially one featuring my personal saint, Whitney Houston. There have been some recent edits of “Million Dollar Bill,” but none will top this one.

Kylie Minogue – All The Lovers

This has a special place in my heart. I closed this year’s Sydney Mardi Gras Festival by playing the Laneway Party, ending my set with this song. It was a difficult time with the horrific passing of two members of our community, so it was important for me to create a moment of unity.

Dan Azzo, Ngaiire ‘Perfect Love’ is out now on GYRObeats.
