Back To Mine with Douze & Lo Galbo (Movie Soundtrack Special)

French / Dutch producer collaborators, Douze & Lo Galbo have released ‘Dawn’ – the original motion picture soundtrack. However, this movie soundtrack is unlike any other. The project aims to create an authentic, retro soundtrack designed to spark nostalgic memories of a movie that never existed. The producers focused on emotive music, specific to different sketched out scene ideas, guiding each listener to imagine their own unique celluloid version of ‘Dawn’. Written and produced almost entirely outside the box on original 80’s analogue hardware, this album is about the music and its ability to become a catalyst for imagination.

L.O.V.E. Ltd label boss Douze is a long-time collaborator with renowned producers Kris Menace and Alan Braxe. He has released on Work It Baby, Discotexas, Animal Language, Computer Science, NRW, Toolroom and more. Lo Galbo is one of many alter-egos from the producer co-responsible for underground French touch hit ‘Searching’ by WebQueawry, ‘The Music We Play’ by We Play, and various ambient and experimental synthwave projects.

To create a film score for a fictional 80’s movie, the duo immersed themselves in soundtracks of the time to understand the process and sounds before outlining a short synopsis of ‘Dawn’ and the main scenes that might exist in the film. Using keywords as a guide they began creating music to breathe life into the story and emotions of each scene.

To celebrate the release of ‘Dawn’ Douze and Lo Galbo have selected a very special ‘Back To Mine’ consisting of tracks from their favourite movie soundtracks of all time. Enjoy!

Tangerine Dream – Love On A Real Train

Risky Business (1983) OST

For our project Dawn, Risky Business is probably what inspired us the most. Not only the movie but the soundtrack in particular. We have always been huge fans of Tangerine Dream (especially their Los Angeles period), and what they brought to the Risky Business movie is close to perfection. We also love the contrast of the soundtrack where big radio hits are combined with more contemplative gems such as “Love On A Real Train” and “The Dream Is Always The Same”.

Ryuichi Sakamoto – Sowing The Seed

Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence (1983) OST

The chord progression in this song is just so obsessive, it could go on for hours without ever becoming boring.

Carly Simon – Why

Soup for One (1982) OST

Another soundtrack that was very inspirational for us. Produced by Nile Rogers & Bernard Edwards, this is probably one of the best love/breakout songs ever written.

Pat Metheny Group – Chris

The Falcon and the Snowman (1985) OST

The true definition of “cosmic”.

John Carpenter In Association With Alan Howarth – Main Title

Escape From New York (1981) OST

One of the electronic themes we like the most.

Wang Chung – To Live And Die In L.A.

To Live And Die In L.A. (1985) OST

We have been obsessing over the chords in the chorus of this song since the 80’s. 🙂

Eno & Byrne – America is Waiting

Wall Street (1987) OST

This song is featured on the Wall Street movie soundtrack, and really captures that obsessed, stressed-out, crazy 80s stockbroker vibe. We believe it’s a great example of a perfect match of audio and video.

Giorgio Moroder – Sleepy Dragon

The NeverEnding Story (1984) OST

This song will make every movie scene look cool.

Vangelis – Dervish D.

Wondere Wereld (1983-1989)

This was used as theme song for “Wondere Wereld” an informative Dutch 80’s TV show presented by Chriet Titulaer that showcased – at the time – new and advanced technology. Can’t get more 80s than this. See for example: https://youtu.be/gFEBdMKUyCY?si=-9sSAvaEuVH1N06G

The Eternals – Running Nowhere (2003)

Astropioneers (2003) OST

We have been fans of The Eternals since the late 90s when they were doing filtered house. This fictional soundtrack really blew our minds at the time, as it seemed so credible as an actual soundtrack (not even talking about the music, which is amazing). In a way, we are not sure our “Dawn” project would have existed without this influence.
