BLAIZE & FREAKY

Texas-based, multifaceted, bass-music, prodigy BLAIZE, is a titan of bass and collective sound. His hypnotic and doomsday-like music is just the surface of the artistry, talent, and diverse pool of mediums he can choose from to convey his vision. He returns to our soundscape with ‘Coupe’ – his new collaboration with the mighty FREAKY….DMCWORLD gets the world exclusive…

Hi Blaize & Freaky thanks for chatting with us today and congrats on your new single ‘Coupe’. How did you guys decide to collaborate on this single?

BLAIZE – So I always send all my WIPs into our Gridlock chat every time I start something. Freaky heard the track and I guess he just couldn’t resist hopping on. I’m always stoked to work with Freaky. Our sounds blend perfectly together.

What was the production process like for ‘Coupe’?

BLAIZE – I finished the first half then sent the files over to Freaky. Once he sent back the stems, I mixed and mastered everything. It was a very simple process.

You’ve announced a few tour dates coming up soon, how does it feel to finally start playing shows and going on tour again?

BLAIZE – It feels great. Of course we’ve got to be sure that these shows are social distancing and being safe so it’s been a little tricky locking in the best shows that we can. But yes, I am very excited to be back!

For Blaize: Love your recent track ‘Stay High’ on Buygore. What was the inspiration for this track?

BLAIZE – This is a funny answer. I have a friend that’s always talking about smoking and all that so I started calling him Reggie just to be funny, then I decided I’m gonna make a song and say something about Reggie in it and surprisingly the song actually came out great so I went ahead and finished it.

For Freaky: You released a handful of new singles in 2020. Which track was your favorite and why?

FREAKY – I would probably have to go with my track ‘Murder’ with PLSMA. This track essentially put me on the map, gaining some major level support from numerous artists such as Excision, Riot Ten, DJ Diesel (Shaq), and many others!

You’ve both had releases on the newly-launched Subsidia Records recently, can you tell us about those tracks?

BLAIZE – ‘Pick It Up’ is a very fast paced and energetic track that I have had a very good reaction on so far. It’s gone viral on TikTok a couple times and has passed 100k online streams within a few months. All the vocals on the whole track were recorded myself. I had a lot of fun with this tune.

FREAKY – My tune ‘Wobble Back’ with my good friend Chassi, was one of the first tracks released with the launch of Subsidia! It’s a very heavy track, and it directly represents both mine and Chassi’s combined styles! We were so proud to put that one out and so glad it’s out there in the world now! The Subsidia team is setting the standard for music labels in the bass music/melodic music and they really take care of their artists, which is why they are so sought after now in this industry! So glad to be a part of their team!

What initially attracted you both to the bass/dubstep genre?

BLAIZE – Back in 2012 I went to my first show and saw Skrillex as well as a handful of other artists of his caliber. That show really changed my views on electronic music because before that I was all about hip hop.

FREAKY –  Back around 2011, 2012 i was introduced to dubstep via Excision, Skrillex, Foreign Beggars, Flux Pavillion, Bassnectar, and guys like that.  Just the aggressive style at the time, and it was like nothing else I had ever heard in regards to music up until that point for me.  I think the first song I heard was either ‘Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites’ EP (Skrillex) or ‘Existence’ EP from Excision. Ever since then I’ve been hooked and dubstep has always been in my playlists!

What kind of future do you see for bass music (or dance music in general) in the next few years?

BLAIZE – I feel like electronic music, whether it be bass, house, or really anything, has been growing at a very fast pace. I think the reason is because the genre is constantly evolving, giving any listener the ability to decide what sub genre is their favorite. This music has the potential to capture the interest of any listener because of how different it is between all the sub genres.

FREAKY – I think bass music producers are some of the most influential, talented music producers on this planet, you are starting to see a lot of bass music elements in other genres as well, even having rappers and singers wanting to work on records with bass music producers. I think the genre and worldwide popularity is growing so fast, and electronic music is becoming/will become the most popular music genre in the world here very soon.

What advice can you offer to aspiring producers that are just starting off?

BLAIZE – Make as much music as you can. Soak in as much knowledge that you can. Really just explore all aspects so that you can find your sound and really become original.

FREAKY – I always tell aspiring producers the same thing: be patient, be obsessive in your craft, continuously progress, learn, be a sponge, and most of all don’t give up or get discouraged .

It takes years to even be recognized to a small extent for your art. There is a process to everything and you are on your own musical journey, nobody else’s. Success takes time.

Just make as many tunes as you can and keep your nose clean.  It doesn’t haven’t overnight.

Any upcoming plans or releases for 2021 that you can share with us?

BLAIZE – I have a track with my old friends Phobos & Deimos (recently rebranded from Grime Tribe) that is dropping March 12th. The tune is called DED and is insane! If you like heavy dubstep then you’ll love this one.

FREAKY – I have so many big plans for 2021.  A few tours, a bunch of new music, and hopefully getting back to regular shows/festivals by end of year! I’m super excited for what’s ahead! You will hear a lot of different maybe somewhat surprising things from me this year! One in particular I’m very excited about is a collab with my friend Zoobstool called “Like This” that comes out at the end of April!
