Hey Giulia, welcome to DMCWORLD! Where in the world are you right now

Hi guys! Thank you for having me in the DMCWORLD! I’m in my house in London.

Your new EP‘200417’  was released on Ross From Friends’ Scarlet Tiger  imprint. How did you meet Ross?

I started to  talk with Felix about music on Instagram and on email. It was still during the lockdown over Christmas last year. We actually met in person only a few months ago before the summer.

What was the production and recording process like for the EP?

Last year around October/November time I wrote a lot of music-I had spent the summer in Italy with my friends and family and I came back to England feeling inspired so I just wanted to write. I was completely engrossed in my music so it didn’t feel like having a structured process

The EP is genre-pushing, from big peak-time euphoria on the titled track and ‘Hey’ to the dark to UK inspired bass sounds and hypnotic soundscapes. Can you tell us more about your influences?

For this particular EP a lot of my influences are drawn from trance, house and more generally the sounds and rhythms connected to the UK dance scene. For instance UK Funky and Garage – there are some subtle elements that come from these two specific genres that may not be heard immediately, but they are definitely in there!

Do you have any go-to bits of studio kit or hardware that you always find yourself returning to?

Definitely operator and sylenth. I use these two VSTs ever since I started producing and I have created many patches throughout the years that I tend to reuse . Also, as go to samples, there are two specific breakbeats, the ‘hey’ and the ‘wheel up signal’ sample from Blu Mar Ten’s jungle jungle pack. I like to play around with these two a lot and keep them in my arsenal to use in every way possible.

Do you use reference tracks when you produce? Or do you prefer to start from a
completely blank canvas?

I don’t use reference tracks ever. I have two processes: if I am not feeling inspired I will open Ableton and create sound patches that I like and have sampling sessions. If I am feeling inspired, on the other hand, I can easily start from a blank page or bring myself back to the samples and sounds that I have created previously. I will then combine all these elements together to create a track.

You’ve been back behind the decks playing some amazing club nights. How was to be back?

Of course it was amazing to be back. The first full capacity event that I played was like a movie – I opened for Ross From Friends at Phonox following the release of my EP and it was one of the best shows I have ever played.

What’s your live set up like?

My DJ set up is pretty simple and classic. Two pioneer cdjs, possibly the 2000nexus, a pioneer mixer possibly the djm-900nxs2, my AIAIAI headphones and USBs full of music that I love.

If you could collaborate with any artist, who would that be and why?

Lady Gaga! There’s no need to explain why, she’s amazing.

Who is Your dream back to back?

In all seriousness – a disco set with Giorgio Moroder, an 80’s set with every member of New Order, a hardcore set with Boosta from Subsonica to name a few.

What is one record that never leaves your record bag?

Josh Wink – ‘Selecta’ released on his own imprint Ovum

Finally, what can we expect from you in 2022?

A lot of new music including a couple of remixes for some artists that I really like – a few singers who I think are sick, and of course more exciting gigs. I’m still working on projects that I can’t wait to share, but you will have to wait and see hehehe… Basically I’m really excited for what next year brings.
