Hollaphonic

British, Dubai-based electronic duo Hollaphonic are renowned for their funk-infused originals and mammoth remixes, taking fans on a journey across the history of dance music, encapsulated in their records and DJ sets. Welcoming summer 2021 with a brand new cut, Hollaphonic turns up the heat with ‘I Don’t Know’ – out now on PinkStar Records. A perfect opportunity for DMCWORLD to get stuck in…

Hey guys! Welcome to DMCWORLD – where are we chatting to you from?

Hey DMC you’re talking to Olly in Dubai and Greg in London, a proper cross territory, cross climate dance duo, and it’s always a pleasure to speak to you guys and all your readers!

You guys have a new single ‘I Don’t Know’ coming out on PinkStar Records. What is the background behind this track and what was the production process like?

We wrote a vocal with some gospel singers in mind that we work with in the US, we like to add some funk and blues groove to our tunes and this seemed the perfect way to round out a production packed with our signature rolling bass and beats designed to make you dance. We’re all about getting people moving, rooted in House and UK Garage for us it’s about finding a vibe that keeps the dance floor grinding and this works a treat.

You guys have opened for some seriously big names, including The Killers, P!NK, David Guetta, Seal, Robin Schulz and many more! What is your favourite show memory to-date?

Opening a stage is a huge responsibility, some of the best DJs on the planet are the residents and those who set the tone for the big names, so for us every gig is approached with a respect for the artist, their sound and energy but also designed to represent us, create new fans and ultimately push ourselves upwards. Opening for Guetta was special, he’s a dude, but as you can imagine the big commercial artists like Coldplay and P!nk you have this epic responsibility to warm up the audience and that’s special but nothing beats your own freedom so for us it’s always going to be the clubs and the festival stages where it’s Hollaphonic first and the chance for us to unleash our signature sound and connect with the dance floor.

Where do you guys find inspiration for your music?

Early days it would be MJ Cole, Grant Nelson and those soldiers of soulful UK Garage, the blend of R&B and Dance ignited something in us. We grew up on Michael Jackson, Ella Fitzgerald, Stevie so it was always about that blend of then and now. Today we dig Will Clarke, Chris Lake, Chris Lorenzo, Biscuit, Sidepiece, MK and gotta respect the freshness of John Summit.

How did you both get into music, and how did Hollaphonic come to be?

We both started as clubbers, wanting to be more, something to say, a sound we wanted to hear more of… so we created it ourselves and the rest is history, inspiration, ambition.

If you could put on a show anywhere in the world, where would it be and who would be on the lineup?

Hollaphonic, John Summit, Chris Lake, Fisher, Will Clarke, MJ Cole then a final live set by massive attack… why not eh! All on an island in the pacific… the only food served is tacos from Juarez!

Top 3 tracks of the moment?

Fallon – Lose Control

Sidepiece – Temptation

John Summit – Make Me Feel

Do you have any live shows locked in for the upcoming months?

We’re focusing on music right now and going live in August, can’t wait… but we want the sound to be right and for fans to understand our energy and connect.

Your releases have been supported by the likes of Pete Tong, Claptone, Garrix and many more. What has been the biggest “pinch me” moment so far?

Pete Tong, BBC Radio One supporting on of our tunes on his ADE Show in 2019 before the shit hit the fan!

Thanks for chatting to us today! Anything else you’d like to add?

Just thanks for the support, the time you have put into the scene and big shout to all your readers, all our supporters and anyone that believe in the power of music to change the energy of everything.
