N1NJA

Tales of Twilight is the new label for breakthrough electronic artist N1NJA. Set against the altitude of the mountains, its debut release ‘Alpine Air’ marks the beginning of a new chapter in her creative journey. Drawing on the rhythms of nature and the raw energy of speed, the track weaves together field recordings from the Alps with expansive, emotive synths to evoke both stillness and motion. ‘Alpine Air’ has already been supported by BBC Radio 1’s Jaguar and features a remix from BURAK SIS.  Most recently, N1NJA unveiled a unique breathwork version of ‘Alpine Air’ in Dolby Atmos, narrated by N1NJA and designed as a single-breath journey that reflects its catalogue number, 001. Crafted through decades of practice in breathwork, Qigong, and energy work, this version invites listeners to reconnect, reset, and rediscover stillness amid life’s accelerating pace, reinforcing N1NJA’s reputation for blending music, storytelling, and elemental energy into a singular, transformative experience.

Congratulations on the launch of your new label, Tales of Twilight. What inspired you to start the label at this stage of your career?

Thank you! Tales of Twilight was born from a desire to create a deeper connection between the values exchanged through music, storytelling, and the natural elements. Over the years, I’ve released on some incredible labels, but I wanted to build my own home, one that reflects my identity on a deeper level and allows me to fully experiment with sampling the sounds of speed and nature. The ultimate goal is to craft timeless records that capture the magic of the golden hour. After years of releasing on other labels, it felt like the right time to take ownership of that vision and build something that could evolve beyond music and into immersive experiences, with striking visuals and a strong community.

“Alpine Air” is a great track! What’s the inspiration behind the single?

I’m really happy you dig it 🙂

“Alpine Air” was inspired by the stillness, adrenaline, and mindset attained in the mountains, a place where I spend a lot of time. For the record, I wanted to capture the different forms of velocity in the Alps, so I spent the winter recording the sounds of my snowmobile and skis carving at full throttle through the alpine air, then turned those sensations into music. It’s the first chapter in the Tales of Twilight story, setting the tone for how the label will explore the relationship between sound and nature.

You mention a connection to the rhythms of nature in your music. How do you translate that into sound?

It begins internally with deep meditation daily in nature, allowing myself to pay respect to the interconnectedness of our planet and find creative flow. Then, externally, I translate that connection using a Biodata MIDI device, which captures the bioelectric impulses of plants and natural elements and converts them into notes and rhythms. These patterns inspire percussive textures, evolving pads, and organic instrumentation. The goal is to build a sonic ecosystem that feels alive, where every sound breathes and moves naturally within an electronic framework.

Can you describe the process of using field recordings from the Alps in “Alpine Air”?

I recorded sounds at 2,500 meters using a field recorder, everything from my skis carving through snow to the low rumble of snowmobiles and even the alpine air itself. Back in the studio, I processed and layered them into the high percussive and bassline elements, weaving textures subtly into the emotional fabric of the track, so the listener feels the environment even if they don’t consciously recognize it.

How does Tales of Twilight differ from other labels you have released music on?

It’s a completely different experience. Running your own label is like building your own brand. Over the past 18 months, I developed a team from hiring a label manager and graphic designer to an animator, marketing, and distribution partners, which allows me to truly become the CEO of my own sonic vision, which is an incredibly freeing feeling. We work closely to design every touchpoint of the release from the artwork to the visuals, and evolve it as the community grows. Tales of Twilight is deeply woven into my life now. I am deeply inspired by specific environments and themes connected to our planet, and now I have my own place to curate soundscapes and build a community that shares similar values to mine.

Can you talk to us about the upcoming breathwork version? What is the idea behind it, and what do you hope listeners can take away when listening to it?

The breathwork version of “Alpine Air” is designed as a single breath journey, symbolically tied to its catalog number, 001, that I narrated. It represents the first breath, the beginning of life, and follows the one-minute breath, a powerful pranayama technique that helps reset the mind and body into stillness. I stripped back the percussion and focused on spacious sound design and natural resonance to create a sense of release and renewal, transporting listeners to the alpine altitude and grounding them within it. It’s an invitation to slow down and reconnect, and it’s made even more special as each layer of sound is mixed in Dolby Atmos.

Your work blends music and motorsport. How do these two elements influence each other creatively?

At first glance, they seem opposite. One’s mechanical and fast, the other emotional and fluid, but for me, they share the same essence: rhythm, flow, and presence. Racing taught me discipline, focus, and how to perform under extreme pressure, lessons that directly influence how I produce and perform. I often mirror that sense of motion, velocity, and adrenaline in my music. It’s about finding harmony between control and surrender, creating the ultimate rhythm with the track.

How important is storytelling in your music, and how do you see it evolving through your new label?

Storytelling is everything. Every track I create reflects a time, place, or emotion. With Tales of Twilight, I want to take that further by curating interconnected narratives across releases and live experiences. The aim is for people not just to hear a record, but to feel transported by recognizing parts of their own journey in it. The label will evolve into a collective of storytellers who share the same vision of depth, purpose, and authenticity within electronic music.

Who is your dream guest to interview on your podcast?

I’ll be cheeky and say the legendary John Digweed and Sasha in conversation together. Their chemistry, legacy, and impact on dance music is phenomenal, and I’d love to ask them many questions about it all.

What can listeners expect from future Tales of Twilight releases and events?

We’re already in third gear, planning the next wave of releases for 2026. Expect cinematic, emotionally charged electronic music with a purpose. Each release will connect to a specific natural element or environment, and our events will reflect that through immersive visuals, nature-inspired settings, and mindful experiences. We also geared up for a very special label presentation at ADE and a performance of the “Alpine Air” breathwork version at the Barbican with Future Sound, which took place on November 7th.
