Pretty Young

Life can be random sometimes… so many things hit us totally out of the blue. When you’re  just walking down the street, and suddenly you meet the love of your life. Or what about  the crazy summer nights? Where you just went out for one drink with some friends, but the  evening turned out to be one of the best nights ever. Because you asked someone for a  lighter, you find yourself watching the most amazing sunset from a hidden spot in the hills.  Out Of The Blue is PRETTY YOUNG’s first single leading up to the same-titled EP released in September. It is all about how life surprises us out of nowhere…listen to the first single from the EP here…

How did you know you wanted to pursue a career in music?

When I was young, I was always very influenced by music. My mother and my father have always been quite musical and listened to a lot of music. So, when I first tried to produce my own songs when I was around 14 years old, I instantly knew that this was something I would like to do for the rest of my life. Regardless of if it would be a career or a hobby.

What was the production process like for your single ‘Out Of The Blue’?

I remember that I played the chords for my song writing partner Isak, and he instantly sang the hook for ‘Out Of The Blue’. First, I wasn’t really sure, but the song eventually really grew on me. I was really inspired by Majid Jordan/funk/disco at that time, so my vision was to create a song that was very laid back and romantic.

Your music has gained a lot of traction in a short period of time since your debut in 2019 — what does it feel like to have all this international success surrounding your work?

It does feel very surreal, but I am truly grateful! The road has been long since I started my career in music. Before PRETTY YOUNG I had already made music under another alias for 6 years, which wasn’t very successful. Now, I see the hard work my manager and I put into my music daily and it makes me so proud. I remind myself of this every day. Music is still the most important thing to me. I want to keep making music that the listeners can enjoy as much as I do.

What’s your favourite genre of electronic dance music?

I have to admit that I rarely listen to EDM myself. I am mostly influenced by other genres like pop or disco, which you can hear both of on my single ‘Out Of The Blue’. However, if I have to pick one, I would say tech house.

If you could perform your music anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

I would say Sweden actually. It always has been a dream of mine to play in front of my family, my best friends, and for the people I have worked with for years. Besides that, doing something like that in my home country would be an honour!

Where do you find creative inspiration for your music?

It really can be anything. I listen to a lot of music, all kinds of genres. In addition, real-life events, sounds, or chord progressions I have heard before, and emotional feelings, can give me inspiration for my songs.

What’s your process like when making original productions on your own compared to collaborative tracks with other artists?

The biggest difference for me is the pressure. When I make music for myself there is almost no pressure, so I’m able to play around more. But If I’m in a session with someone, especially if it’s someone new, I have to be more aware that the other person likes everything as much as I do. So, in that way, it creates a little bit more pressure.

How did the name ‘PRETTY YOUNG’ come about?

It’s actually a funny story, I was looking for a new alias and I saw Michael Jackson’s song ‘Pretty Young Things’, so I just totally stole “PRETTY YOUNG” from that. I thought it looked cool.

Where do you see yourself within the next 5 years?

Hopefully I will be doing live shows or even tours in 5 years! That would be awesome. Besides that, I hope I continue to release music that I love and that I write songs with a lot of new people.

Are there any upcoming projects worth mentioning?

My EP “Out Of The Blue” is coming this year, so I’m suuuuper excited for everyone to hear the songs that I’ve been working on for the last year. These are songs that I truly love, and I’m so happy to have worked with all these great songwriters to make my ideas come alive.
