Adrian Lux

Summer vibes coming our way Sooner or Later via the Swedish boy wonder

Interview : Dan Prince

Hey Adrian, welcome back to DMCWORLD – where in the world are you today…?

“Hey! I’m in New York at the moment, I’m up here for some interviews and promo!”

You are obviously no stranger to the scene and clubs in the States, dance music is settling down in the US now, producers are taking their music in different directions, clubbers are listening to new sounds…what are your thoughts on things over there right now…it’s going great right?

“Yes I mean, I kind of knew that this would happen and have been looking forward to it, it’s kind of what happened in Europe a few years ago. I’m very interested to see where people are going to take it this year, the competition is higher and it will all come down to who works hardest and being most creative. I’m living in LA now and I’m at it every day in my studio to make new waves!!”

June 7th – Hawaii – excited huh?

“Yes, It will be my first show in Hawaii so I’m very excited, being from a cold place like Sweden we always dream of place like Hawaii. I can’t wait to see what its about!!”

So massive news right now for you with your new tune ‘Sooner Or Later’ getting the remix treatment from Swiss artist Nora En Pure…ambient synths and those delicate vocals ensuring even more of a feel good factor this summer? Why this artist for remix duties?

“I really like her music, I think her sound is very on point with what’s going on today in the scene and it is a direction that I love.”

What is coming out next from you studio wise?

“My new EP is being releasing on June 3rd, it’s a 6 track that I’ve been working on for a long while. The EP is named “Make Out” and I tried to go for a cinematic feel on it. I just got my new studio going In LA so I’m excited to see what will come out of that!!”

An hilarious comment from a superstar DJ this week… …“a DJ has to have a piss every time before he goes on the decks, and if somebody tells me that’s not nerves they are full of shit.” – do you still get nervous before DJing?

“Yes OMG yes!! If you go up there to play and you put your heart on display every night of course you will be nervous! I think it’s good though, cause It actually means that you’re still caring about what you’re doing and not just there to not give a f*ck. Sometimes I wish my nerves where nicer to me though haha!!”

Where are some of the big shows you are looking forward to this summer?

“I’m playing Tomorrowland again, I’m looking forward to that, it’s so cool over there!! I’m also playing a huge festival in Sweden called Bråvalla, I think that one will be special! There are lots of shows in the States as well and some Ibiza dates that will be sick!!”

Best ever festival moment?

“It must be from Australia, when 30,000 people where singing ‘Teenage Crime’ acapella, that was a very special moment Dan!!”

For a DJ, looking out to a sea of a thousand faces every weekend must get quite the norm, it must be really refreshing when you are booked to play in an unusual venue…what places slot into the ‘unusual’ category in recent months?

“I played a show in Dubai recently, that was pretty cool actually, a very different vibe than anywhere else.”

What is on an Adrian Lux rider in 2014?

“There’s tequila, Glenlivet, lots of beers, waters, sodas, candy and sandwiches!”

A big quote posted on your Facebook page this week from Oscar Wilde…”never love anyone who treats you like you’re ordinary”. What was going on in your head on that day?

“I was going through some of his quotes, they always make me feel good and he has a great way of expressing very simple things in a great way. That one was one of my favorites, It’s a good reminder I think.”

Who are your big DJ mates you love playing with at an event, who do you have the most fun with?

“There are so many, I love if they are on the same line-up but then I do my own thing when I’m playing anyway. Would love to do more back to back shows though, its so much fun.”

What is the last song you heard today?

“If I Could Change Your Mind – Haim.”

A quote from a superstar DJ last week…“ I believe true DJing is actually an art, but it’s a dying art, as everyone is pushing the sync button…it’s a real shame when you see a ‘DJ’ plug his laptop in and call this DJing. Music will always evolve but sometimes not in the best way.” What are your thoughts on that?

“I think there is a point in that but then again you can’t really stop people from doing it in a new way. I’m trying not to be negative about the things in the industry that I think suck, instead I try to be the change and progress that I would like to see. It’s dangerous to become bitter, just do you own thing and try to make that the biggest!!”

An up and coming producer to watch out for this year?

“I think Audien is really doing great things, he’s such a talented producer with great taste!”

The last time you made a mistake whilst DJing?

“I can’t remember, last time I played In Australia this girl sneaked into the booth while I was playing and accidentally sat on the pause button so the music stopped haha!! That sucked!!”

Do you have any crazy die hard fans who follow you everywhere?

“Now not really, I mean that would be pretty expensive and time consuming for them to fly out to every show!! But there are definitely hardcore fans who come to a lot of shows and show their love on twitter and Insta!!”

Not many people know this, but Adrian Lux is really good at?

“I’m really good at fingerboarding, like crazy good!! Kind of wish I had put all those hours into learning a new language instead haha!!”

It’s your birthday, who are the 3 DJs you ask to play at your party and what singer dead or alive do you get to sing you Happy Birthday?

“This would be a fun mix…

Nora En Pure

Nero

Nicole Moudaber

…and…Bat For Lashes.”

And finally, what are some of the things you absolutely love about touring in the States…?

“I love the energy of the people, it’s amazing how supportive and loving the fans are!!”
