Anton Powers

Interview by Dan Prince

Anton a huge welcome back to DMCWORLD. Where in the world are you right this second?

Hey Dan, just in Liverpool at the moment. Busy in the studio working on new music.

The first piece of music you heard this morning after rolling out of bed…

Oddly it’s a record that I signed to 3 Beat that came on the radio, Kungs v Cookin On 3 Burners – This Girl.

You are heading to the white isle for a bit of Cream action at Amnesia next Thursday. Can you recall the first time you ever hit Ibiza and your most cherished memory?

It was 2002 I think and have fond & messy memories of Manumission, Space & seeing P Diddy up close with Morillo & Steve Lawler at Pacha for Subliminal Sessions. Can’t wait to play Cream in Ibiza for the first time next week. It’s always been my favorite night on the island (Flower Power a close 2nd) and that Amnesia Terrance is SPECIAL!

What is your stance on the whole VIP Ibiza argument has it lost its magic?

Each to their own isn’t it. It’s like that everywhere I understand there is a demand for it and that can’t be ignored. Just about getting the balance right and not forgetting your roots which most don’t.

Loving ‘Love Your Better’…talk us through the track…

The success of ‘Alone No More’ blew me away and has given me the confidence to get busy in the studio. So there is going to be lots more to come, Love You Better the first of many!

You will also be appearing at this year’s Creamfields Festival, one of the finest events dance music has ever seen. What makes it so good?

It has that something special. Firstly & most importantly the crowd is quality. Super up for it and know their music inside out and come to have a ball. Secondly the attention to detail the Cream crew put to the show, I’ve been to every single one and have seen the lineups & production levels get bigger and better every year. You wonder how they will top it, but they manage it every year. Definitely the highlight of the year for me without question

Your funniest ever festival moment?

More embarrassing than funny. It was one of the first Creamfields, back when it was at Speke Airfield in Liverpool and I was interviewing DJs for my radio show at the time. I had in front of me all together a real dance music moment, James Barton, Erick Morillo, Pete Tong, Carl Cox & Paul Oakenfold. I was a kid with these legends in front of me and about to interview them all together and as I went to press record. I had left the machine on all day and the battery had died. Game over, go home, and don’t come back.

What are the 5 big tunes in your box this weekend…

  • Illyus & Barriantos – Strings

If I could describe my music style in 1 song its this. Disco-laden feel good house at its best!

  • Anton Powers – Love You Better (M-22 Remix)

These guys are great mates of mine and turned in a stonker of a remix

  • Anton Powers – Command Your Soul

A little track I’ve done that’s going down great in my DJ sets. Sampling the classic CLS – Can You Feel It

  • Unknown – Dream Baby Dream.

I adore this record. Literally just got sent to me, no idea who it is but I can’t stop playing it, and the crowd reaction is HUGE.

  • Camelphat – Make Em Dance

Made up the lads are getting there moment and with tunes like this it’s no wonder!

an

Gotta give Sunday July 24th a mention. Quite a gig huh?

Absolute dream to play Tomorrowland, a real pinch yourself moment. I went for the first time as a raver last year and it blew me away just how special it is. It’s like a different world. Pure Alice in Wonderland fantasy vibes. Cannot wait for this & to play for Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, two great guys on their Smash The House stage.

An up and coming producer to watch out for in 2016?

There are a couple of guys from Sweden called Elva Elva, think they are gonna pop soon for sure.

A couple of oldies that you always have ready to play…

Kings Of Tomorrow – Finally & Laurent Garnier – Man With The Red Face are always a staple in my USB. And although I don’t play it often in my sets, I always have my all-time favorite Mory Kante – Yeke Yeke close by.

A tune guaranteed to be a summer anthem…

As mentioned before, Dream Baby Dream I think is gonna blow up. Look out for it!
