Back To Mine With DJ Payroll

DJ Payroll is Manhattan-born and raised, growing up around the rich 90s sounds of New York. His authentic house grooves take inspiration from that time and combine it with Afro-Latin percussion, seductive horns, and driving sub-bass. He started this label, Good House Keeping Records, in 2016, and it has since become an underground staple featuring plenty of his own music, which he calls ‘ghetto fabulous’.  As his new release ‘S27’ drops, DMCWorld goes Back To Mine with DJ Payroll.

The Mexican – Babe Ruth

Growing up when breakdancing was becoming a thing, this record was massive! All the breakers would fly to the dance floor when it came on—just a funky ass record.

MFSB – Love Is The Message

This record came out in 1973 and is as relevant today as it was then. The record has no vocals, but the groove is fantastic and mixed perfectly.

Cerrone – Supernature

”WOW!” is the best word to describe this record. The Frenchmen killed it. It’s such a different record. The synth, arp, bass, vocals, and vibes are incredible. I first heard it at a 718 Sessions party and was blown away.

Hi Gloss – You’ll Never Know Soul Purrfection Version

I love the record. It’s sexy, smooth, and emotional. Every time I put it on, it lifts me up. It’s always in my record box.

Lou Rawls – You’ll Never Find Another Love Like Mine

This record takes me back to NYC block parties in the 1990s. It’s such a fun and heartfelt tune.

Lo Dudo – José José

I remember my mom listening to this record while she cleaned the house. It brings back so many memories of my childhood. It’s just a beautiful record, and it’s now considered a classic.

Hector Lavoe – El Cantante

Hector Lavoe was instrumental in creating Salsa music with Fania Records. He truly is a wordsmith and still the best Salsa vocalist.

Lionel Richie – Hello

Only a handful of records can make me cry; this is one of them. It’s that powerful.

Alicia Myers – I Want To Thank You

This record was one that I would hear at every party, at a time when parties were open-format. It just killed the dance floors.

Loleatta Holloway – Hit and Run

This record always remains in my record box. Although it’s been remixed many times, the original is still my favourite. It’s pure perfection!
