Back To Mine with Mannix

Mannix has been one of Vienna’s most prominent house music pioneers since he first started Doing back in the early 90’s. He’s released tracks on AM:PM, Go Beat, Generate Music, Soundmen On Wax, Polydor, Tropical Disco and Re-Loved, among many others. His notable releases in recent times include his remixes for Mousse T.’s ‘Maybe In May’ (Peppermint Jam), Arnold Jarvis’ ‘Rising Into Joy’ (Black Vinyl) or Luisen & Vennessa Jackson’s ‘Push Through’ on Midnight Riot. This year saw the launch of Mannix’s own new label, DAFIA Records, and on his latest release with VillaLife ft. Andre Espeut he takes on Junior’s 80’s Classic ‘Mama Used To Say’. DMCWorld checks in at chez Mannix for an after ours session…

Banderas   – This Is Your Life (London)

A track that I can’t get enough of. It’s a beauty in the making, thankfully all efforts in trying to cover it, have failed big time.

Isaac Hayes   – Ike’s Rap IV/Brand New Me (Stax)
If I show someone my house there is no escaping Isaac Hayes as he’s the one I adore most. Those two tracks blended together show his endless skills.

Yazz – Fine Time (Big Life)
Brilliant song which is as strong now than it was when being released in 1988. It shows that Yazz has got so much more than ‘The Only Way Is Up’

Lustral – Everytime (A Man Called Adam Balearic Remix) (Hooj Choons)
This started out as an individual AMCA track but turned out to be one of the best Chill remixes that exist. Perfect track to calm down after a stressy day

The Cool Notes – You’re Never Too Young (Abstract Dance)
One of the best 80s acts to come from the UK, could listen to that one until my last breath

Everything But The Girl – Walking Wounded (Virgin)
Chilled Drum & Bass-where has it gone? I regard Tracey Thorn as one of the best female vocalists outside the US. This is just a wicked track in every aspect.

Melba Moore – Free (Sony)
I love Melba Moore to the moon and back and back again, and this track sums up all her talent perfectly.

Tears For Fears – Mad World (Afterlife Remix) (Mercury)
I was a big Tears For Fears fan in my very young days. When Steve Miller aka Afterlife came up with the chilled remix version, two brilliant worlds melted.

Joanna Law – First Time Ever (City Beat)
To cover a song of a caliber like this requires courage and self confidence because generally you only can lose. But here the blinding Joanna Law delivers a version that even moves Roberta Flack’s all time classic into the shade.

Mandalay – It’s Enough Now (V2)
They could have been as big as Portishead or even Massive Attack if they hadn’t split after just two albums. A brilliant track.
