Back To Mine With Taaris

Metz-based Techno DJ and producer Taaris is a resident with London’s Elata collective and heads up the Native Rhythm collective in Paris. She is deeply connected to the ancestral power of music and brings shamanic vibes to her hypnotic grooves, always with the intention of immersing listeners in the spiritual experience of an Ayahuasca ceremony. As she makes her debut on Lady Tazz’s Mind Medizin label with her ‘Nankay’ EP, DMCWorld goes Back To Mine with Taaris.

Kagrra – Urei

A jewel from the Japanese visual kei scene. Blending melancholy and tradition, this band is one of my all-time favorites, especially during my teenage years. Choosing just one track was difficult. As an electric guitarist, I’ve always felt that Japanese music from the 90s to the early 2010s had such rich harmonies and melodies, so different from what we heard in the West.

Sona Jobarteh – Gambia

I’ve always loved the sound of the kora, it reminds me of the crystalline flow of water. Every time I hear this music, it carries me into an inner haven of peace. It’s the kind of melody that both transports and re-centers you. For me, it holds a spiritual power that goes far beyond music itself.

Alcest – Autre Temps

Another spiritual masterpiece. I’ve been listening to this music since I was 14, and from the very first listen, it gave me a rare feeling. One that only a few other pieces of music have ever given that feeling. Every time I hear it, I feel at home, connected to where I come from and to a deep universal energy of love. The most amazing part is that, in a 2020 interview, the singer Neige revealed that he aimed to convey the feelings he experienced from flashbacks of a world of love and gentleness from his childhood, a sort of vision of heaven and that he wanted to transmit this through his music. Knowing this added an unexpected depth to my experience of his tracks. I hesitated before sharing this but I think it’s important to express a bit of my spiritual side.

Cielo Medicina –  The White Arrow

Shamanic and ceremonial, this track feels like a portal. A journey carried by different melodies and elements, like the wind guiding you. Most people who know me are aware of how much shamanism influences my life. To me, this sound embodies the very soul of healing.

Hraach – Burned The String

This one is really special. The track reminds me of a micro-house/minimal vibe but doesn’t follow all the usual rules, with its nostalgic Armenian melodies giving it a truly unique character. It was actually how I started mixing Deep House during my DJ debut. I’ve always been a huge fan of old Armen Miran and Hraach tracks. I love to mix that kind of music on a sunrise/sunset.

Northlane – Clockwork

As a guitarist, I couldn’t skip one of my favorite metal tracks. Indeed, I’m also a true Metalcore addict. This one blends electronic synths that give it a distinct cyberpunk edge. I also highly recommend their album Mirror’s Edge. Every time I listen, I’m struck by the way they fuse intensity and dynamism. It creates a sound that stays with you and leaves you with a feeling of moving forward.

Tangent – Oare (Sakdat & Balaur Remix)

Minimal house with a super deep vocal. I’ve listened to this track so many times, late at night, with the feeling that it wraps around my heart. And every time, I get completely lost in the music. It’s one of my secret tracks that people don’t know I listen to.

CuraSana – Aya Ceremony

This track takes me to a space outside of time. It is the very essence of shamanic art. I’ve spent countless hours meditating on this music. It’s deeply introspective. Every jungle detail, along with the track’s progression feels completely unique.

OZ – DETOX

Back to Japan. People around me know how much Japan holds a special place in my heart. I’ve been listening to this band since my teenage years and I love the singer’s uniquely clear voice. I used to play this track on my guitar countless times.

Black Uhuru – Plastic Smile

Old-school reggae at its finest, the kind of reggae I truly love. The funniest moment was a few years ago on holiday with my partner. We had a new car with a terrible radio. When this track came on my usb key we laughed so much because it felt like we had been transported back to the early 2000s. It added so much aesthetic, even though I already loved the track.
