Interview : Dan Prince

Guys welcome to DMCWORLD, where in the world are you today?

“Hi guys! We are currently in Italy, just back in the studio to finish some work…”

2014 continues at a hectic pace for you, Elevator smashing dancefloors all over the world and now ‘Dinosaur’ shakin us up! Talk us through the sound and history of the track…

“In this track we did what we like to play in our gigs…tracks with a melodic break (with strings, pad and guitar) and a heavy drop! It all started from a drum loop that remind us the Dinosaur’s steps…”

When I thold The Buzz Chart crew I was interviewing you today, they shouted “we love this song, they have gone for musical melody and nrg rather than a dirty drop – ask them if the musical tables have turned for the summer?” So, what do you say to that?

“Heheheh – nice question! We think that the musical tables are already changing..a lot of producers are looking for a different kind of drop…usually we try every time to make something different to surprise the listeners. Finding the right innovation we think is the hardest part for a producer.”

Your tunes have received some great supports from some of the game’s major producers. Who are the some of the names you have been proud to see bigging up your records…?

Okay let’s rewind for a moment. How old were you when you first discovered dance music, who were some of the producers and artists that first caught your attention?

“It was around 16 for Alfio and 14 for Riccardo when we started to listen to dance music. The first tune that caught our attention was ‘Pon de Floor’ by Afrojack and Major Lazer, we felt something different in this track!”

Was the initial idea to become DJs or producers?

“We started passing afternoons behind the console doing experiments, live mashups and from there followed a desire to create our own sounds and let the public hear it.”

What was your first break into the music industry?

“The release on Sidney Samson label Samsobeats of our track ‘In My Hand’ with the vocal of Bizzey – actually known as Yellow Claw’s Member.”

What did your families think of your choice of careers?

“Our families always supported us…although back then the career in production and DJing in Italy was not considered a positive idea!”

Tell us about your studio set up…

“Started with iMac and Ableton installed. We use Ableton for all our productions, 2 different kinds of monitor (KRK RP8 / Yamaha HS7) and for listening to the tracks we have 2 different quality speakers – Axiom pro61 Apogee Duet audio interface and Motu Firewire.”

Who excels in what area when producing a track, who is great at what?

“We work together in every individual sound and in every part of the tracks we produce.”

What is the song that…

Always gets you singing in the car…

“All Earth, Wind & Fire’s tracks – especially ‘September’.”

Makes you think of an ex-partner

“Eamon – F**k It.

Makes you think, I wish I would have made that!

“Zedd – ‘Find You. We think Zedd is a genius and this track is really nice!”

Where are some of the big DJ shows you are looking forward to this summer?
