Released last week but then how could we let this gem escape the attention it so richly deserves. It seems strange that despite being only the labels fifteenth release Visionquest have had such an immense impact on club culture. This collection continues that theme with Laran Lane and Jaw (from dOP) stunning ‘Lazer Eyes’ twisting funky bass and percussion across cool vocals and beats. QBeck’s excellent ‘Alice’ follows in a deeper vein featuring Julia Govor’s vocal over moody electronics while so...
As the Electro Swing dance craze continues to percolate across Europe and beyond, London's answer to the Anthill mob, Grand St, join forces with Brighton 'bearcat' Phillipa Alexander for a lollapalooza of a dancefloor smash titled 'Joe Palooka'... It's the cats pyjamas! 'Joe Palooka' was a 1930's US comic star who was a bit of a loser by all accounts. Phillipa clearly has one thing sweet thing on her mind and that's Mazuma.."Just show me the money!" Making a grand entrance, 'Joe Palooka' kicks o...
'What It Means' is the latest single from Bali based DJ/producer BTK (AKA Billy The Kid) who has teamed up with ace vocalist Stee Downes, who recently dominated the charts with Lovebirds single smash 'Want You In My Soul'. The result is a heartfelt slice of dancefloor soul crafted for the electro disco dancefloor by Reelax and a lush dreamy housescape from those darlings of deep and silky smooth sounds, Wamdue Project.

The debut long player from long time resident of the breaks scene, Stylus Rex, 'Amplify' is a thought provoking, well considered, with the utmost attention to detail, aural exploration. Tech funk, heavy bass and driving beats for the dance floor vie with deeper and more left of centre quirky electronica. 'Blatant Elephant's melodic elephantine bass is pure genius that meanders and kind of slithers along with a rasping b line that erupts into the wah wah of a trumpeting elephant. Genius! The vide...
It's rare to see the Pet Shop Boys material covered - for one thing their style is so quintessentially PSB that rarely can others bring something new to the table. Likewise with a legion of fans, spanning into three decades, you're pretty much on a hiding to nothing for your troubles. So fair play to James Talk & Ridney for reworking Chris and Neil's debut single from 1984. (Oh and before the train spotters start waving their biros in the air I think we can discount East 17's rendition becau...
There's something wonderfully sexy, seductive and totally hypnotic by this oh-so-simple instrumental offering. Butch, the Turkish-German wonder boy, also has a new album on the German imprint, 'Papillion', but it's this vibrant accordion and percussive house flavoured shuffler that's grabbing the attention of the likes of Chris Lake, D.Ramirez, Laurent Garnier, Nic Fanciulli, Martin Eyerer, and more. 5 Out Of 5Reviewed By: Lews Dene...

The king of all things banging in the World of tec-trance, has returned with a very clever dancefloor killer. We start the show with a luxury rolling off beat bassline and flicky percussion that gets you locked into a hypnotic groove. Fire up the haunting strings on the break and the floor is in your palm and waiting for instructions, time to bring in the big melody riff and those hands are busy painting the club ceiling for you in no time. The hook line will have the guessing for the tune but u...
Here's another strong double-header from Melbourne's Hiddenform imprint that follows acclaimed releases by Chris Cargo & Paco Buggin and Daniel Taylor. Now from St. Petersburg, Russia the label presents a name to certainly watch for in '09. 'Mindbomber' is a terrific house cut that pairs dubbed out beats with techno-tinged melodies to create the modern day jackin' sound. The addition of a driving synth-line only helps this swing, shake 'n' rattle in all the right places over a dirty as hell ...

This won't be out until January but it's one of those records that the world needs to know about right now! Prime electro-driven grooves drenched in the kind of soul, musical innovation and sheer sonic majesty which explains why Canada's Matt Chester performed alongside UR in London. The man, who is now based in London, has that indefinable knack for injecting emotions into the machines and letting them fly out as genuinely heart-lifting vehicles which also galvanise the feet with their undulati...
There's been many bends, curves and changes in musical direction for Tim Deluxe over the years - from the innovative garage sound of 'RIP Groove' to the samba pop of 'It Just Won't Do'… for his latest chapter he returns to his underground roots for a stark slab of heavy heavy funk of raw analogue electronica. 'Jack It' has already won its strips on terraces of Ibiza with key support from Paul Woolford, Derrick Carter, Danny Tenaglia et al. But for me it's the bleepy 'Mudpod' that really lets his...
The first single from Salt's forthcoming 'No Surrender' album is another simplistic musical oeuvre far becoming of his 25 years. Another well thought out head-swimmingly elaborate sound collage of mesmerising progressive house moods and epic dreamy melodies that help you float along to the eerie, yet captivating sounds of nu electronica. Add Tyrrell's no nonsense tech-house thumper version to the package for further palatable pleasure. 4 Out Of 5Reviewed By: Lewis Dene...
With the assembled talent it's really hard not to get excited by this American/Spanish collaboration that finds The Scumfrog's neartrademark stark, and yet funky sound, the dominant factor. In the Original version it's a chunky house mind-enveloping journey into never-never land with equally eerie female vocal ad-libs complimenting the pulsating synth-lines and rasping basslines. Peter Gelderblom's remix strips the effects back to allow the tripped out vocals greater room to hypnotize, while Ga...
