Big Hard Excellent Fish tell it like it is

1 (3) BIG HARD EXCELLENT FISH – AND THE QUESTION REMAINS –

ONE LITTLE INDIAN

It’s been 23 years since The Imperfect List first raised eyebrows and turned heads. Well now Big Hard Excellent Fish make an equally provocative return, as Josie Jones spits out the current disgusting state of life in Britain today, set over a dramatic classical piece of music: Charlatan karaoke dream peddlers… Dodgy dog shit leavers… Phoney religious icons… Thieving little twat… Silver Bullet take it on an eerie spaced out groove, and Rootmasters serve it up on a bed of deep tones. http://youtu.be/bZ32FrwdRSw

2 (8) YOUNGHUSBAND – DROMES – SONIC CATHEDRAL

A stunning debut LP that blazes a pop savvy trail across fuzzy psychedelic landscapes, floating on shimmering lakes, soaring above thunderous clouds and burning bright among the twinkling stars. This London outfit are going all the way. http://youtu.be/HS13Z04Uwtg

3 (4) LORELLE MEETS THE OBSOLETE – WHAT’S HOLDING YOU? –

SONIC CATHEDRAL

The first track to be lifted from the Mexican duo’s third LP Chambers, is a relentless, hazardous, driving psych-out, that could induce foaming at the mouth and rolling eyes. It comes flipped with the excellent and much sought after Medicine To Cure Medicine Sickness. https://soundcloud.com/sonic-cathedral/lorelle-meets-the-obsolete-1

4 (2) DJ PIERRE – SAVE OUR WORLD EP – DEEPLAY DIGITAL

The Original Mix is a perky rump shakin’ techno number that just keeps on driving, aided by a call to arms megaphone vocal. Moodmusic head honcho Sasse comes up trumps in the remix department, delivering two electrifying workouts, with smouldering low end 303 and intricate spot on machine percussion, teasing, pleasing and explosive. The Acid Dub takes no prisoners. https://soundcloud.com/deeplaydigital/dj-pierre-save-our-world-sasse

5 (1) YOUNGHUSBAND – SILVER SISTERS – SONIC CATHEDRAL

New four piece from London serve up a sumptuous swirling mix of colourful emotions, with a post punk feel and a slightly deadpan vocal, that’s a bit Ian Hunter meets Robert Smith. Lifted from their forthcoming debut LP Dromes, definitely one to check. http://youtu.be/keGauqHihR4

6 (10) SHIT ROBOT – WE GOT A LOVE FT. REGGIE WATTS – DFA

Big 90’s piano scream up with loads of familiar house elements and classic Chicago style vocals that are done a bit cabaret on purpose. Watch this rip the place apart.

7 (9) MEANDISCO – THE DAY I SET YOU FREE FT. DANIEL WILDE –

SULLIVAN ROOM

New York’s Sullivan Room makes the leap from club to record label with an underground future classic, as infectious key riffs work their way around deep house rhythms, but the icing on the cake is the tripped out vocal take on Ain’t No Mountain High Enough. Remixes come from Bruni & Danielle and The Scumfrog. https://soundcloud.com/meandisco/meandisco-ft-daniel-wilde

8 (NEW) HARLEIGHBLU – FORGET ME NOT – TRU THOUGHTS

Fantastic debut LP of modern soul with hip hop grooves. This Nottingham based singer has got a truly outstanding voice and she sings it like she means it. The girl has got it going on.

10 (11) M+A – THESE DAYS – MONOTREME

The Italian duo take a different course and make a shiney happy return with their sunshine filled sophomore LP, bursting with instantly catchy electronic pop songs set on sophisticated grooves. Sort of Example meets Beck meets Empire Of The Sun. Cute.

11 (12) BURNING HOUSE – WALKING INTO A BURNING HOUSE – NAÏVE

Debut LP from Chief Xcel (Blackalicious) and Herve Salters (General Elektriks) under their collective moniker Burning House. It’s a fun packed genre hopping affair, taking in funk, disco, hip hop, jazz and kids TV themes all shot through with a good dose of pop savvy.

14 (14) SCOTTI BRAINS – KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN BOY –

SPEEDY WUNDERGROUND

Dan Carey, Oli Bayston and Beth Buxton have a sunshine frazzled wig out in Dan’s South London studio with an Oxfam purchased 1950’s tape recorder and an anonymous recording which was already on the featured machine. A mind bending afternoon with a nice bit of jingle jangle. https://soundcloud.com/speedywunderground/sw004-scotti-brains-keep

15 (NEW) ROTIFER – THE CAVALRY NEVER SHOWED UP – GARE DU NORD

Robert Rotifer along with fellow band mates Ian Button (Thrashing Doves / Death In Vegas) and Mike Stone (Television Personalities), have come up with a great LP that has got wit, sarcasm, humour and a dark old London town underbelly. It stands out from the herd, but it also brings to mind 1960’s David Bowie, Scott Walker, Jarvis Cocker and Edwyn Collins. This LP is well worth your attention.

16 (6) BALI FAMILY FT. NAVID IZADI – RAIN & SHINE – SOUTHERN FRIED

James What of Crosstown and Poker Flat fame was on holiday in Bali, where on a whim he hooked up with Luca C (Brigante’s other half), and vocalist Jamie Graham, together the trio made a woozy and dreamy psychedelic number with simmering acid house feels. If Jason Spaceman ever made a club record, it would probably be along these lines. Shame about the tagged on unnecessary rap though, go straight for the rap free Dub. https://soundcloud.com/southernfriedrecords/bali-family-feat-navid-izadi-6
