EDX

One of the most dedicated, hard-working characters in the industry, Swiss-Italian DJ, producer and label head, EDX, has spent the past twenty-five years at the forefront of electronic music. We catch up with the man himself…

Hi Maurizio, thanks for taking the time to speak with DMC World Magazine. How are you?

I’m doing great thanks. It’s always great to chat to DMC World. What’s up!
You headlined Spinnin’ Records first ever London show at Ministry of Sound last weekend which was incredible, can you tell us about your relationship with the label? Do you have a long history?

Yes, we have a very long history and I’m very good friends with the guys at Spinnin’. We’ve been working with each other for over 15 years..since day one actually. The last few years we’ve worked very closely on the EDX project and it’s been an amazing collaboration. I’ve also played Spinnin’ Sessions and Spinnin’ Deep events all over the world and they’re always great parties. And Saturday was a lot of fun, another brilliant night with the label at this iconic venue.

You’ve had an amazing year so far with tracks like Anthem, Jaded and your remix of Janelle Monae topping charts and receiving millions of plays on Spotify. Can you tell us about your plans for the rest of the year?

Yes absolutely. There’ll be lots more music – not quite as much as last year (I think I released 12 original tracks and remixes in 2017) – but definitely lots more to come. I want to focus on delivering more diverse tracks so there will be club-focused tracks, more remixes and more vocal tracks after the summer. I’m actually very excited and happy at how 2018 has been so far. All of my tracks have topped the Beatport charts and received great results on Spotify, especially in countries like UK, US and Mexico. My remix for Charlie Puth in December has already hit 10 million streams on Spotify and is the most streamed remix for that track, which I’m super happy about. It’s been a great 6 months so far, and I think the next 6 will be really fast-paced. I can’t wait for you guys to hear all my new music.

You’ve just spent a while touring around North America and you’ve played here in London many times over the years. How does a London crowd compare with crowds across the pond?

London is always a special place to play, with a long history of dance music. I used to listen to a lot of the KISS FM radio shows back in the day from guys like Carl Cox and DJ Hype, so I’ve always had a special connection to London. When I was a kid I used to fly to London every three months to buy new records, which was a very expensive habit! The London crowd is very dedicated and electronic music has been there since day one. It’s engrained in their culture so I’m always really looking forward to the crowd and the party.

What are three records that never leave your Rekordbox…
OHM – Tribal Tones

EDX – We Can’t Give Up

London Grammar – If You Wait (EDX Remix)

You’ve obviously had a very successful career, spanning over 25 years, but what’s the hardest thing about being EDX?

Wow, is it already been 25 years! I dont feel that old haha. I guess the hardest thing is to make sure you’re always fresh and that you’re one step ahead of music trends and it’s evolution. Having said that, I absolutely love what I do, and I can’t imagine doing anything else.

Finally, do you have a message for your fans ahead of Spinnin’s London debut?

Thanks you to everybody that comes out each weekend and for your support. Looking foward to seeing you on the dance floor.
