The king of Ibiza’s Tribal Sessions in the house

Interview by Dan Prince

Dude a massive welcome back to DMCWORLD, where in the world are you right now?

Thanks for having me back! I am in Italy’s Puglia for a couple of gigs and about to head back to Ibiza right after this.

What was the first piece of music you heard this morning?

I visited Lecce’s old town so I was feeling like a bit of Celentano and Ornella Vanoni.

What a summer you are having. Loads of great gigs in the sunshine and some cool festivals. What have been some of the stand out gigs this summer – outside of Ibiza…

To be honest had an unbelievable party in Greece this summer, an event I never expected to ever turn out that great as its deep in the suburbs but I was free to play anything and we just got on a beautiful journey that day.

Surprised not to see you in Greece more this summer?

I tried but I was already booked out for the summer before I was able to lock down more Greek dates. Because of the bad economy people really want to rave these days and some great parties are happening at the moment.

Talk us through the music on your forthcoming EP on Bedrock…

Kind of 90s British rave vibes, acid house piano riffs, big melodies and a b-side dedicated to Alfredo Fiorito who is considered the father of the ballearic sound. Not really what you call a low key record. Bedrock is an institution for dance music and always wanted to give them a record so I am happy we finally did it.

You have been in and out of Ibiza this season, tell us all about Snoop Dog at Tribal Sessions at Sankeys.

I am playing almost every Tuesday at Tribal Sessions and having Snoop on the 4th of August was kind of surreal but also to be expected by the Sankeys brand because the owner David Vincent has a quite unique vision when it comes to parties. I reckon Sankeys carries the spirit of The Hacienda so also carries its quirky ideologies (thankfully!).

Tribal has been great this summer. Sankeys is now established as the most forward thinking club of the island. You must all be delighted?

I think they covered almost every club music genre at Sankeys this year, especially with the last addition the now already almost legendary Redlight party which is a UK garage night. At Tribal Sessions the line-up was ultra high quality and quite serious I must say. We tried to introduce heavy sophisticated dance music and I am quite happy that more international people arrived this year to the club.

What has been your track of the past few months?

The remix that Alan Fitzpatrick did for my last album with MAMA on Bpitch Control. Remixes Part 2 are coming out this October.

What can you tell us about this mini album linked to a charity project we are hearing about?

All I can say its something that I started working on when I was based in NYC last spring. Ibiza is the worst place to finish off projects so I am waiting to get out of here to rush this project out before the end of the year. NYC is such an inspiration for me and when I am there I have all this crazy ideas that I have to then finalise in a more sober environment back here in Europe, which is actually good because I might need a bit of realism to keep things in order!

Who are some of the DJs that have impressed you this year?

DVS1 played a really good and responsible set at Sankeys. Thats a key word for a good DJ set which is rare these days because your ego needs to be in place for it. Play Responsibly…

Another night you’ve dipped into in Ibiza is Vagabundos…how has that been?

I am doing 3 shows this summer for Vagabundos at Space and all in a different rooms. I am actually looking forward doing an all-nighter in the sunset terrace to play all these records that I love but not able to showcase in a more demanding context. Moodymann played an incredible show there last Sunday and it was one of the summer’s highlight musically speaking.

And finally – what is on the horizon release wise after the EP?

After the EP on Bedrock I have plenty of remixes coming out for several dance artists but also indie musicians. We also have Dominonation remixes part 2 coming out on Bpitch Control featuring Alan Fitzpatrick, Rampa, Mike Starr and more. And finally more original material from me before the end of year and hopefully a new album by next summer!
