Arno Cost

The Paris producer can do no wrong! Huge new tune and brand new label about to drop

Interview by Dan Prince

Arno a huge welcome back to DMCWORLD…where in the world are you today?

I’m in my studio in Paris, working on some new fresh beats.

The first piece of music you heard this morning after crawling out of bed?

Michael Calfan – Mercy

A really busy summer for you is under way, let’s kick off with the new tune ‘Coming Home’ feat. James Newman…which follows ‘Rising Sun Love’ – tell us about the history and sound of the new tune…

I got the James’ topline via my management, and I immediately felt in love with the emotion of the track and they way he sings it. There is so much power in his voice! I felt that I should also come with something powerful and full of energy in the production. So I found this melody, and I found some synths I love. Beside that I wanted to make it summers and use a guitar for the break, and that’s how the track was born!

The biggest news around you at the moment however is the news that you will be creating your own label When In Paris that is launching in September. What is the idea/aim for the label?

We are working on some plans for a label yes, but honestly no launch date planned yet. We are thinking of the end of the year. I think it’s a logical step in my career now and with the When In Paris brand growing quite fast now, I feel with the label I can have my own platform of releasing music that I like and that I feel connected with. I believe the French house scene has meant a lot for the international music industry, and still does. This groove, and this melodic house sound is going to be big again, and giving platform a for that sound is the idea of When In Paris.

Tell us about the launches at ADE and Paris…

In September we will be hosting a When In Paris event in Paris, can’t tell the exact date, venue and line up yet, but it’s going to be big! At ADE we will also do something special to serve the Amsterdam groovers. Some of my good friends will be playing there, and it’s definitely something you can’t miss!

And what will be the first releases…?

Hahaha, unfortunately I can’t tell yet, but I suggest that everybody keeps an eye on the When In Paris Facebook: www.facebook.com/wheninparis.fr as we will be announcing more information soon…

How is the new studio coming along?

Great! Last month I started working in a new studio, some good improvements compared with the old one. The sound is better and I feel I can work faster. Very comfortable and an inspiring place!

We hear you are a bit of a tennis freak? Have you got a nice lob?

Yes I tennis a lot! It clears my head after a good studio day. I also love to watch all the big tournaments on television or live. As you might know recently we had the Roland Garros in Paris, a very cool tournament! Unfortunately my lob isn’t that good yet as the pro’s!

A tune that Ibiza Anthem 2015 written all over it…?

Julio Bashmore feat. Sam Dew – Holding On: Amazing summerish house track, so much emotion going on there.

“Trying to remember Chopin at the airport” – discuss…

I have been playing Piano since I was a kid, and back in the days I played a lot of classical pieces. At the airport in Paris there was this Piano so I though why not play a bit for the people that are waiting. But it was actually a while ago since the last time I played, so I needed to rehearse a few times before it went flawless.

3 bucket list adventures you wanna do in your lifetime…

Perform a set on the Eiffel tower, break the record of the biggest croissant, and playing tennis against Federer!

There are strange WANTED posters going up around town in Ibiza. What’s the story there pal?

I will be playing at the FMIF show together with Nicky Romero on the 10th of September. You should come!

Can you remember the first trip to the white isle? What are your memories?

Yes it was after my first successful release Magenta, we were booked in a club, and it was such an overwhelming and awesome experience. The vibe on the Island was something I didn’t experience somewhere else on the world yet!

A tune that immediately reminds you of Ibiza?

Arno Cost & Arias – MAGENTA!

A festival you cannot wait for this year?

I’m playing at Xstatic at the Park this year, that’s gonna be a cool one!

Your best and worst festival moment?

In general best when the sun shines, worst when it rains!

Not many people know this, but Arno Cost is really good at…

Playing chess

And finally, what is coming out next from you studio wise?

I’m finishing three new tracks this month and working with some great new unknown vocalists. Can’t wait to reveil new music!
