Back To Mine with Bedford Falls Players

Quite simply the best soundtrack of the midnight hour

QUite simply

1. The The – “Good Morning Beautiful”
From the “Mind Bomb” album – Johnny Marr on guitar – whats not to love? A sublime epic journey which touches on our consciousness and has the line “Satellite oh satellite, who sits upon our skies, how deep do you see when you spy into our lives?”

2. Laurent X – “Machines”
Early acid house industrial chugger – love this because it captures the chaos of those early parties when they got into full swing. I still see the strobes, lasers, smiley faces and bandanas when I close my eyes. Still stands up today!

3. Augustines – “Nothing To Lose But Your Head”
Having seen these guys a couple of times up close and personal, I have to say they are one of the best live bands I have ever seen – They’ve gained the title the “People’s Band” – because they actually give a shit about their music – Billy McCarthy gets to you – raw passion and amazing voice – from the album “Augustines” !

4. Peter Gabriel – “Games Without Frontiers”
Haunting track from “Ein Deutsches” – has been “re-edited” recently and is very playable during a warm up! Love Gabriel!

5. Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip – “Thou Shalt Always Kill”
From Pip’s debut album “Angles” this was the tune which really broke Dan Le Sac & Scroobius Pip – amazing lyricist and poet – I also did a cheeky edit of this which comes out from time to time – The whole album is groundbreaking and everything after this is well worth digging into!

6. Mungolian Jetset – “Creepy”
A great “Back To Mine” track for those who like to just plug in and get lost in a strange world of astral beings and mystical creativity – no one does that better than the Mungolian Jetset – Norwegian electronic music duo consisting of DJ & turntables Pal “Strangefruit” Nyhus and Producer Knut Saevik – from the album “We Gave It All Away, Now We Are Taking It Back”

7. Alt-J – “BreezeBlocks”
From their album  “An Awesome Wave” – another fantastic live band who sound original and fuse the electronic and acoustic beautifully! LOVE this album!

8. Level 42 – “Mr Pink”
Mark King at his best! Level 42 are amazing – I listen to them before any drumming gigs I do as they “ground” me – A fantastic slice of pop-funk from one of our national treasures!

9. Beatles – “Blackbird”
Another “Back To Mine” classic. If there is a guitar at someones house after a club then you are in for a treat! I can murder this song beautifully!! One of my fave Beatles songs…

10. Bedford Falls Players – “Ballad Of Hardrock (Ashley Beedle’s Housin’ Vocal)”
One of my favourite BFP tracks. Had a great time making the original with Farley and Justin over at the BakeHouse studios – when we heard Ashley’s remix we knew it was a bit special. Was chuffed to bits when it was included on Terry’s visit to Weatherall’s show on 6Music a couple of years back. That’s when I knew we were onto something…

Bedford Falls Players ‘The Fallen Off the Sample EP’ (inc. Al Mackenzie, Theatre of Delays and FLVN remixes)
Dutch label Night Noise (the lead label of the Night Noise Group and one concerned with chugging disco and balearic sounds) hits release number three in style, with DJ collective Bedford Falls Players serving up irresistibly groovy tracks that get remixed by Al Mackenzie (of D-Ream fame), Berlin’s Theatre Of Delays and regular contributor at Night Noise, FLVN.
Mark Cooper heads up Bedford Falls Players and has long been making authentic tracks in partnership with acid house legend Terry Farley. Having made all styles of house in his time, this new EP finds Mark slowing the tempos and playing with old and new tropes in his own thrilling way. “The inspiration for the tracks comes from years of listening to 303 and 808 based electronic music and wanting to put my own interpretation on things.”
The superb opener, ‘Story About House’ has familiar vocal samples and a hip-hop groove originally created on Mark’s computer after a chat with Terry. It is deep and spacious, driving and elastic, and really sucks you in. Al Mackenzie then slows things down, layers in glowing pads and rubbery bass riffs and invites you to get horizontal.
The second track is “Golden Seduction” where Mark has taken a familiar old bassline from the classic ‘Seduction’ track in 1988 and re-rubbed it into a more dubbed out, buoyant and flabby acid mood, while Theatre of Delays go all cosmic with their ever rising melodies, trilling synths and pixelated 303 bass.
The compelling third recording is ‘Chudley’s Chemical Chug’ and again does what it says on the tin – it chugs along on a cosmic-disco tip with acid lines and grinding keys all fleshing out the slow but slamming groove. Lastly, FLVN get dark and dirty on their robotised version with its churning mechanical grooves.
This is a diverse and delicious disco package and finds every one involved on fine form.
