Back To Mine with Charles Blossfeldt

Back To Mine with Charles Blossfeldt

After hours grooving at the best late night sessions in town

01. Motorhead – Ace of Spades (Unplugged)

Not to be cliche, but I’m going to start with a tribute to the recently lost Lemmy, an idol to me. The track has been the soundtrack on lots especially throughout my skateboarding days were I learned the real meaning of broke.

02. Howling Wolf – Smokestack Lightinin’

Another hit from my days of pushing ply. I spent (and still do) dream of crossing what I envision the Nevada desert in an old Ford Mustang. Haven’t lived this dream yet but one day.

03. Prodigy – Spitfire

This track was my first interaction with raw and rowdy electronic music. Around the age of 14, I heard this, went home, and immediately pirated production software. I never looked back. Always outnumbered never outgunned was the first of many electronic albums I bought.

04. X-Press 2 – Kill 100 (Carl Craig Remix)

I recall this from my first club experiences on the Adriatic coast. The sound has definitely driven my inclination to originals filled with techno vibes from my production.

05. SebastiAn – Walkman

Most definitely a music and visual genius. Though he pops up rarely, this Fenchie will always be my hero.

06. Vitalic – Still

Though I’ve only recently discovered Vitalic, I can say he’s triggered a revelation apparent in my own compositions. The loads of deep feelings in his tunes really make an impact.

07. Culprate – Black Left

He’s one of the biggest nerds ever in the best possible way! His experimental style and technical power is an inspiration to say the least. As a super nice and approachable guy, he’s proof that this is the best industry.

08. Noisia & Hybris – Crystalline

Noisier are definitely some of my favorite sound designers out there. They strongly influenced a long period of my life spent locked in the studio with Turin-based producer Quibt. The quest for perfect synth modulation was definitely driven by Noisia.

09. Portishead – Machine Gun

Wow, ever single listen is just wow.

10. Bohren & Der Club of Gore – Midnight Radio (full album)

It makes no sense to just listen to a single track in this release. Do yourself a favor and take some time to chill with the most intellectual music in existence.

Charles Blossfeldt – Sober EP (Loot Recordings)

Loot Recordings kick start 2016 with a sixth sizzling EP, this time from the talent that is Charles Blossfeldt. His two great originals come with remixes from Mooselfy, Machino and Pablow and make for a great package. Charles Blossfeldt is a brand new artist from Europe who is looking to set things alight with his personal take on underground house and techno. Up first is the slick skipping beat of ‘Sober,’ with its big bold bass strokes, light footed drums and spiritual synth patterns. It’s an absorbing, dream like affair for the dead of night and gets you dancing as well as feeling something deep inside. First remixer Moosefly is a mysterious character who puts out music on Mother Recordings and Kaato Music amongst others. His unique take on the track is even more serene and spaced out, soft and sensuous with lots of lush synth work adding plenty of colour to the cut. The second sizzling remix is from Mexico’s Machino, who releases the robots with his interpretation, layering in propulsive percussive and synth lines that glide along above some drum based drama: it’s sure to carry crowds off into the night in fine style. The other standout original is ‘The Cure’ which is a deep techno roller with slithering synths squirming about inside wide open chambers of warm bass and cosmic atmospheres. It’s patient and classy, intricately constructed yet effortlessly cool. The remix of this one comes from Italian Pablow, who reimagines it as a much more driving, quickened techno track with big airy hi hats and cantering drums that journey far off into the cosmos. This is a moody, serene EP from a great label and exciting new artist in Charles Blossfeldt.
