Back To Mine with Heretic

Through the night grooves at the best after parties in the world

01. Boards of Canada – 1969
Tough to pick just one from this album, it’s easily one of my favourites of all time. This particular track has been a big influence on me though – the synths and vocoders are just gorgeous.

02. Richard Buckner – Ain’t No Grave Can Hold My Body Down
A frightfully good a cappella version of this old standard. Is there a better line than ‘there ain’t enough pussy to take the whiskey off my mind’? No. No, there is not.

03. Morphine – Take Me With You
Amazing little bluesy number. I thought I hated saxophones until I heard this. Quite a revelation… THAT fucking double bass too! So good.

04. YOB – Marrow
Love a bit of post-rock. This is my current favourite – the middle section where it goes all 70’s is wicked. Not one if you’re in the mood for a quick fix of pop, mind! More songs should be 18 minutes long.

05. Autechre – Second Bad Vilbel
Ok, so it doesn’t start off particularly ‘end of the evening’, but finishes up that way. Maybe one to stick on when you first get it, let it bring you back to reality.. If reality happens to be an electronic dystopian nightmare full of weird robots.

06. Caribou – Melody Day (Four Tet Remix)
An achingly beautiful rework of Caribou’s already rather lovely original. Not what you’d expect from a ‘remix’ either. Spine-tinglingly fantastic and a great video too.

07. My Bloody Valentine – To Here Knows When
Just brilliant. And I rip it off all the time. Hope no one notices…

08. Fiedler Eitner Schlott – Unit II
I can’t very well bolster my position as a gratingly pompous music snob without picking some jazz, can I? This is great though. Never thought I’d say that about a piece of 80’s East German Democratic Republic experimental synth-jazz.

09. Down – Lifer
To juxtapose all the ‘nice’ music we’ve had thus far. This’ll jolt anyone thinking about a disco nap back into the room. I love metal and Phil is the best front man of all time.

10. Death in Vegas – Hands Around My Throat
Hard to pick just the one from DiV, their back catalogue is mind blowing. Love the trashiness of this but depending on how long you’re planning to stay up for, maybe just whack on their entire discography.
