Back to Mine with La Mverte

Late night shimmer grooving from a legend

Naffi – D’Ya Hear Me ?
A great record, got the repress last year I guess. Like the Beach Boys but even higher and hot and the space echo. A favourite !

Lena Platonos – Shadow of Blood
Once I discovered it, I must have listened to this greek new-wave track over and over for days. Re-released recently on the mighty Kunstkopf label, a real masterpiece.

Serge Gainsbourg – Love On The Beat
A huge classic from the french genius. Everything in this track is perfect, either the lyrics than the music. Meow Meow at any time.

CHBB – INA IKI – Mashoo
Taken from a pre Liaisons Dangereuses tape series, a great gathering of experiments, sequencers and synths.

Soft Cell – Sex Dwarf
A classic, still super inspiring to me. Dave Ball and Marc Almond at their top, synths and sex, one doesn’t need more to feel good.

Tranquil Eyes – Television
A record I like a lot, great synth-pop, some of the tracks are perfect for home listening, as others for dancing !

Coïtus Int. – Shrill Screams
I really like the the atmosphere of the records, the textures. Warm and raw new-wave / punk, I’m used to listen to it quite regularly these days.

Mutant Beat Dance – Protagonists
Traxx and Beau Wanzer under cover for a great record released on Light Sounds Dark. Not the obvious easiest, but great music all over.

The Sisters of Mercy – Lucretia, My Reflection
ALL TIME FAVORITE ! What to say about this track that has not been said ? Perfect in all ways, can’t get bored of listening to it. Haunting and still counting.

Siglo XX – Dreams Of Pleasure
Hard not to put something from Belgium. Really into this, one of the best belgian post-punk bands to me. Very inspiring.

La Mverte ‘A Game Called Tarot’ (Her Majesty’s Ship)
After a first release in 2014 that got picked up by RBMA and saw La Mverte attend the famous workshop in Tokyo, he recently returned to the studio to finalise this new EP, ‘A Game Called Tarot’, for the Her Majesty’s Ship label. For over a year, the Mverte ship has sailed gracefully between erogenous synth-wave and disco chiaroscuro and here he continues to explore a mysterious and esoteric universe that is dark and charming as he looks at the theme of divination and destiny, symbolised by the XIII card.
The title track is a haunting bit of dark disco with oodles of synthesiser drama, slick drum led grooves and plenty of slap funk goodness. It’s hurried and urgent and sounds like the chase scene in a film noir. The remix comes from Alejandro Paz and is an even more dazzling affair with lots of thick synth patterns, filtered, ghoulish voices and tortured pads all making for an intense atmosphere. Then comes ‘This Wicked Game’, a nimble and dynamic affair wired up with retro electronics, shimmering synths and plenty of playful cosmic energy. Lastly, ‘The Wheel of Fortune’ is a wobbly bit of rusty disco with sinewy synths, well defined metallic drums and chilly percussion that only adds to the liveliness of the track overall. Hugely evocative and as fun for the mind as it is the feet, this is another crisp offering from La Mvert.
