Back to Mine with Mark Allister

Not Going Back? We’re back dude…get the tunes on

01. Roy Ayers – Love Will Bring Us Back Together
Infectious funky guitar riff, organ stabs and smooth vocal make this almost impossible not to dance to.

02. Arthur Adams – You Got The Floor
Bass line that just says everything is alright in the world.

03. Dexter Wansel – The Sweetest Thing.
Sorry Barry White but this is after hours smooching!

04. Ini Kamozi – World-A-Music.
Every track on the album is a winner but this one pips it for me.

05. Faze Action – In The Trees
When deep house was errm… deep house.

06. Herbie Hancock – Chamelion
Let the perpetual funk take over you.

07. Stevie Wonder – As
Love the gospel vibe with this one and when Stevie rips the vocal apart…

08. Lonnie Liston Smith – Expansions
It may be an obvious choice but for me this is one of the greatest dance tracks ever made. Positive words with a killer tune.

09. Curtis Mayfield – Freddie’s Dead
Story telling ghetto stylee.

10. Don Carlos – Alone
When the sun comes up watch people smile when you slap this one on the 1210’s.

Mark Allister – Not Going Back (Giant Records)
Giant Records is a brand new label from influential and long standing producer Grant Dell (aka Tribalation) that promises to become something very special. Behind the excellent inaugural EP is UK talent Mark Allister. Jay Tripwire and label boss Dell turn in top remixes to complete the noteworthy first package. Allister is a well travelled DJ who has almost 25 years experience in the bag. A regular at parties like Kerfuffle and Beatsworkin in the UK, and someone who regularly plays Ibiza and Barcelona, Mark’s influences come from funk, soul and jazz, and he is someone moreinterested in the music than his own profile. The fine original Allister serves up is ‘Not Going Back,’ a groovy and inviting house roller with perfectly treated spoken word vocals that echo about the mix. The percussion is organic and bobbles atop crisp drums and sci-fi synths, and the overall effect is hugely engaging and cosmic. First to turn in a remix is the much loved Canadian tech house titan Jay Tripwire. A veteran of Bass Culture, Real Tone and many other fine labels, his remix is typically slithery, spaced out and hypnotic. Finally, boss man Grant Dell then tackles the remix after a 15 year plus career releasing on fine labels like Bosh and Akbal Music and many more. He goes deep, dubby and stripped back on his track, but allows the vocal line to soar and be the centrepiece of what is a terrifically emotive remix. With such a strong first release and well chosen remixers, the Giant Records label is already off to a flying start, especially in light of the fact that more fresh music is in the pipeline from Silicone Soul, Tom Gillieron, Jeff Bennett, Terry Francis, Darren Roach, Echo Of Glory and Jay Tripwire.
