Back To Mine with Monday Club

After hours grooving with the London duo

PAUL:

Solitaire Gee – Slumberland (Rhythm Invention Remix)
When I first heard this track the bass line totally blew my mind. Very hypnotic and cool, wicked vocals too. A great early Warp release. A very timeless record.

Kiwi Dreams – Y (Danny Tenaglia Dub)
Deep and groove based hypno-house. Danny Tenaglia in his ‘imperial’ phase.

Cosmonauts – Cycle Eyes (Summer Version)
The original was a low slung 105 bpm chugger, which was also ace, but one time when I was  on holiday, Dave Gardner my partner in Cosmonauts, completely reworked the orig into this version and turned it into a brilliant summer house track. It oozes everything that Cosmonauts was / is all about really.

Pet Shop Boys – Paninaro
Quite simply the most stylish record ever made. Still in my top ten of all time.

Wham – Everything She Wants
This is such a tune, from the first hit of the bongo’s to the rich DX7 bass line, not to mention George Michael’s ad libs on the extended mix. It has it all.  Had this on at plenty of house parties over the years and is always a winner. This is also a particular favourite of my wife’s, she absolutely loves belting it out! Can never ever tire of it.

LUKE:

1. Nightwriters – Let The Music Use You

Impossible for me to hear this without the hairs on the back of my neck standing to attention, something so innocent about it and so simple but still an absolutely perfect record…

2. Suicide – Cheree

The grandfather’s of techno in after hours mode… can’t touch this…

3. The Doors – Riders On The Storm

Heard Francois K play this at Body & Soul in NYC a long time ago and it took on a completely new meaning for me… If Jim Morrison had heard it played that loud he’d have shat his leather trousers…

4. Fat White Family – Cream Of The Young (Medicine 8 Remix)

This is a remix we did of a band on me and my brother/partner in medicine 8’s label Trashmouth Records called Fat White Family who were recently dubbed by Q magazine as “The most dangerous band in Britain”… actually lovely lads… this somehow manages to be soothing and slightly disturbing all at the same time which is no mean feat..

5. I Am Bandit – Gimme Special Thrills

This is a bootleg I did of Thriller by MJ/Special by Sir James?Gimme Shelter by The Stones… Just always seems to fit, whatever the occasion. Love it when a plan comes together…

Monday Club – Lewis (original, club dub, Dubka remix)
Monday Club is the musical meeting of minds of Medicine 8 and Decius’ Luke May and one half of Cosmonauts’ Paul Sidoli. They deliver a killer house track in classic early 90’s vein, stripped down with a driving and infectious bass line. When asked about the track ‘Lewis’ Luke told us:  “The track came about when we bought an old Casio CZ-101 synth at a flea market. The organ sound had featured in so many great records from back in the day and of course if you use that organ sound it can’t help but feel like you’re in a proper rave so the rest just fell into place around it…” ‘Lewis’ also comes with a great beefed up dub version with added crazy percussion and bigger bass. Third track on the package is a remix of ‘Lewis’ by Dubka.
Dubka, with great reputation founded in his amazing all-analog synth live shows, puts his own touch on the track with his rhythmic, bass heavy remix with extra touches of 80’s electronic disco.

Monday Club’s new single Lewis is out now on Punks Jump Up new label Muzik Box.
