Back to Mine with Noel Jackson

After hours grooving…

1. ESG – Moody
That bass line can’t get more infectious. The use of stop time is beautiful. Everyone loves this tune.

2. Oshana – I Don’t Write Love Songs
Because you always find some way to let me know I’ve got no reason to worry.
I was a total mess from the night before I heard this, the second it came on, I laid back on the bed and let it wash over me. Thanks for this work of art mollz.

3. Naughty by Nature – Jamboree
Hip hop jam that makes everyone want to have a jam jam jamboree. The sampling of “On Your Face” from Earth Wind and Fire is genius.

4. Missy Elliott – Work It
Another classic hip hop tune, sampling some other fantastic tracks. A total masterpiece. We copped the melody in our latest East LA Tek EP. (http://www.beatport.com/track/addictive-box-original-mix/5390857)

5. David Tagg – Improvisations for Cancer
Words can not describe the beautiful, haunting, loving, and honest intentions of this album. Sincerely a work of art.

6. Yard – Vocadef
An awesome techno/ambient/acid tune off their “Celestial Acid” cassette.

7. Toni Braxton – You’re Makin Me High
You need a go to. When in doubt, turn on the Braxton. If you don’t love Toni, you’ll learn to.
From a production standpoint, there are some amazing things going on.

8. Slum Village – Get Dis Money
For my Detroit homies. What you gonna do today? Get paid.

9. Vera – My Little Disco (Rhadoo’s Lets Deep Scope Remix)
A clickity clackity minimal jam from two excellent producers.

10. Beyoncé – Party
Pop music… that is irresistible. From a pure production and sampling standpoint, it’s out of this world. But aside from that I love B. If someone says they don’t, they are lying…

Detroit born Hypertone label boss and a partner in Superfreq, Noel Jackson is next up to release on the ever-excellent label. The LA native also works with Mr C as East LA Tek, gets support for his records from the likes of Kevin Saunderson and Stacey Pullen and is revered for his compelling and singular sound. That sound is once again laid bare here across a five track mini album that really permeates brain and body in equal measure.

Made using a Roland 303, a custom modular synth, Nord and various field recordings and vocals, this mini LP “was produced quickly – on purpose, in the span of about 3 (long) days. This was an experiment in honesty and intention. Each track comes from my heart and soul, each sound crafted by hand, with the notion of delivering music without regard to judgement.”

Up first on this truly journeying release is ‘Intention (via LSD)’, a slick and serene trip to the edges of our galaxy. Ripping little synths, gurgling bass and icy percussion all make it an enthralling, groovy ride. ’30 Micrograms’ is a slippery tech house cut with spooky synth details, scurrying little alien sounds and a deep groove you hope never ends. Majestic, cosmic melodies colour things later on and have your mind fully suspended in space as a result.

Next up, ‘Qrak + Pink Elephants’ finds Jackson stripping things back to a minimalistic groove with slinky, feathery percussive lines dancing over uninterrupted kicks.

‘Formula C20H25N3O’ is a lively melange of chattery synths and melodies, weird voices and rubbery click tracks that makes you want to move every bone in your body, such it its sense of hi tech funk.  Closing out this ambitious but coherent sonic journey is ‘Acid Test #0’, an undulating track with haunting pads, freely evolving acid lines and soulful, Detroit referencing synths.

Across five expert tracks, Noel lays out his futuristic electronic vision in fantastically fine style and expands minds, bodies and souls in the process… dancefloors watch out!
