Back To Mine With Oliver Santiago

Late night sessions with the head honcho at Simposio Productions

Bombers – (Everybody) Get Dancin’
This is one of my favourite songs from the late 70. Take a look how the people are enjoying the music made by Bombers.

FRONT 242 – funkahdafi 1985
My first discovery of Electronic Body Music, made by Front 242. This song made a big impact on me.

Autechre – Teartear. HQ
Autechre have been in my brain for a long time, especially albums like ‘Incunabula’ and ‘Amber’. They were always looking to the future.

Underworld – Pearl’s Girl [Everything, Everything]
This is another of the first songs I discovered in electronic music. I just decided to get involved in making music when I heard songs like this.

Jeff Mills i9 video at Liquid Room Tokyo
One day in the 90’s I was watching music videos thru my TV, suddenly I could saw this video from Jeff Mills for first time. I’ll never forget those exciting minutes.

Pan-Pot – Black Dog
The best track made by Pan-Pot was ‘Black Dog’, the best production ever made by these guys.

Sascha Funke – Mango Cookie (DJ Koze’s Pink Moon Remix)
I played several times this remix on my DJ sets, the dance floor was always crazy dancing this big thing made by DJ Koze.

Re Arrange DJ KrustCinematic Orchestra Remixes 98 2000
The first album I discovered  by The Cinematic Orchestra was ‘Remixes 98-2000’. My own music was influenced by this band for a long time.

Esbjörn Svensson Trio – Behind The Yashmak
It’s time to say why the jazz music will be in my heart for the rest of my life. ‘Strange Place For Snow’ was the first album discovered by me from this amazing trio. I had the pleasure of enjoying their concert in Barcelona (2007). Esbjorn Svensson rest in peace.

Bach Piano Concerto No 1 in D minor BWV 1052 Adagio
I don’t have words to describe what  J.S. Bach means to me. He is the greatest artist of all time and I turned away of electronic music for some years discovering and playing his work for piano. You must check his long career because this man changed the music theory forever.

Oliver Santiago – Pianism Remixes EP (Simposio Productions)
Simposio Productions turn their attention back to a release by label boss Oliver Santiago from 2012. His ‘Pianism’ cut now gets revised by a great selection of modern producers including Yuki Narita, Pina, D/O/22, Re-Drum and Oliver himself. Up first, the Re-Drum “Strings Of Death” Remix is a slow motion, elastic and super deep cut with an intoxicating atmosphere crafted by oriental sounding strings and well spaced drum kicks. It’s moody, soundscaping stuff with poignant piano keys dangling in the air and will make for some captivating moments on the floor.
The Yuki Narita remix is a more streamlined bit of Jeff Mills like techno with rolling kicks, icy hi hats and jittery little percussive ticks peeling off the heady groove. Then comes label boss and Spaniard Santiago with his head hitting, purposeful and vastly cavernous remix with its churning kicks, big heavy piano chords and bleak sense of atmosphere.
Pina goes for a more broken, hiccuping groove and coarse textures on his remix. The surreal sense of unease remains, but bass percolates down below and the drums rock backwards and forwards on their heels. Last but not least, D/O/22 layers up synths and percussion into a high pressure, ever building bit of slick techno that is wide open and sucks you right in.
This is a quality EP for fans of cerebral, long form techno and is sure to lock down many a dancefloor in the months to come.

Oliver Santiago – Pianism Remixes EP (Simposio Productions) is out on March 25th 2015
