Buzz Chart Awards 2014 – Scott Fraser

The clubs, the producers, the labels…the music

Tune of 2014

St Julien: Lazor/ Jupiter (Apron)

This is always difficult…but this one from Funkineven way back in January gets my choice as it has been without exception the record I have played most at both Crimes Of The Future parties and the gigs I have played solo at this year – and proof if ever that you don’t need shedloads of elements and fancy shit to make a killer record.

Festival of  2014

Andrew Weatherall Festival, Carcasonne, France

2 days of DJs and live music in a medieval castle within a world heritage site in the south of France. Beautiful sound, fantastic crowd and a Michelin starred catering area with a world class sommelier supplying the wine…only in France –  all impeccably organised by Bernie Fabre and Benjamin Esteve…winner hands down.

DJ of 2014

Traxx

Melivin is a unique talent who lives and breathes his Jakbeat sound, I had the pleasure of putting him on and playing with him in Glasgow at Crimes of the future this year and in London at Autumn St Studios at Body Hammer and he absolutely nailed it both times, it’s great to see him now starting to get the props he deserves in terms of his work as a DJ and running an exemplary record label Nation…the real deal.

Producer of 2014

Legowelt

From my point of view Danny has been consistently putting out incredible records year on year and this year is no exception…probably a contender for my favourite album with Crystal Cult 2080 too.

Rising Star of 2014

Tuff Sherm

I came across Dro Carey’s work in 2013 and have been a fan ever since, perfectly holding the line between darkly subversive music whilst still doing the absolute business on the dancefloor.

Label of 2014

Forbidden Planet

I discovered this label via the Breaker record in 2013, absolutely super label  with some of my most consistently played 12’s of 2014 on here…lovely artwork to boot!

Club of 2014

Output: New York

Difficult to articulate just how well put together this place is, I played there in April for Brian Kassenic’s Bunker with Tim and everything about it from the organisation up is fantastic…it’s easy to see how much love and attention has gone into setting it up…and the sound is probably the best I’ve heard in a club anywhere.

Best Podcast / Radio Show of 2014

Timothy J. Fairplay for Crack Magazine

I could pick from many of Tim’s podcasts this year but I’m choosing this recent one for Crack Magazine, alright.

Remix of 2014

Clark: Banjo (Pariah Edit) Warp

Late to the 2014 party, but my goodness what a remix…absolutely killer through a decent system.
