Incredible set aboard the Sisyphos truck at Berlin’s Zug Der Lug…as the sunset
Tune of 2015
‘Independence’ Stephen Barnem Remix – Agoria
Destroys absolutely every dancefloor I’ve played it on – house or techno. A tune for making people scream, shout, throw their arms in the air and most importantly, dance
Your best DJ moment of 2015
Playing off the top of the Sisyphos truck at Berlin’s Zug Der Lug (Street Parade) in July as the sun started to set. It was the parade’s first year and no-one really expected anyone to come; instead, tens of thousands turned out, the weather, despite storms threatening all afternoon, stayed idyllic, and the electricity in the air was tangible. I decided to go much harder towards the end playing proper techno and it worked like a dream – becoming a truly magical pinch-myself moment that lasted for hours
Your worst DJ moment of 2015
I played at Rio de Janeiro afterhours haunt the Cave Club in February to less than 10 people and it was pretty grim. Another existential ‘what am I doing here?’ moment but it’s not the first and I’m sure won’t be the last. Always an adventure
Guilty pleasure track of 2015
I don’t believe in guilty pleasures and completely avoid listening to any EDM/pop/radio music as default. Having said that, one guilty pleasure experience was watching Like Mike and Dimitri from Vegas at Sunburn in India. It was late December and while the music was as appalling as expected the experience was actually quite enjoyable- the same kind of collective energy you’d sometimes feel at great football matches standing on the terraces back in the day (I’m thinking of Maine Roads’ Kippax) but with girls instead of northerners
Selfie pic of the year:
Living in Berlin for 7 years, I don’t do selfies
DJ of the year
I saw some great sets from my Sisyphos compadres Fidelity Kastrow and Juli.N More, CLR’s Emerson, Peter Schumann from Kater Blau. For crossover future stars of 2016, Pan-Pot and Sante are no brainers. If I had to pick one – Fidelity Kastrow
Label of the year
Drumcode
Best breakthrough producer
I’m loving pretty much everything Lee Van Dowski is releasing
Best DJ argument of the year
Sneak versus absolutely everyone – with special mentions to the Martinez Brothers and Wonderground
Most annoying record of 2015
Absolutely anything by Avicii, Guetta, Calvin Harris and all the other EDM superstars – I can’t remember the names of any others just now but all of them
Best piece of studio kit launched in 2015
I’m liking the new Pioneer RM07 studio monitors
Biggest loser of 2015
Donald Trump – hopefully!
