The kings of Canada set their spell on 2015 with their mighty new tune ‘Voodoo’

Interview by Dan Prince

Chris, Alex a massive welcome back to DMCWORLD…where on planet earth are you today?

“We’re on the beautiful island of Bali!”

Not jealous at all! What is the first piece of music you two heard this morning after rolling out of bed?

“Some Indonesian music, no idea what to call it. It was very chill though.”

A brilliant start to 2015 continues with the release of ‘Voodoo’…a cool collab with Jay Hardway. Please talk us through the history and sound of the track…

“We’ve known Jay for a while and we started working on a track a while back. Then Chris flew over to Amsterdam like a month ago and Jay and him finished the track. It’s a biiiiiiiiig track, we really like it. It has sort of a spooky sound, that’s why we called it ‘Voodoo’.”

A big night for the Turnin Italia massive the other night. Best moment of the evening?

“Sounds cliché but whenever we’ve got a new track it’s really special to see the crowd’s reaction, so when we played ‘Voodoo’ it was really awesome!”

3 bucket list adventures you would like to do in your lifetime?

“Playing Coachella.

Buy a private island to chill with friends.

Do a track together with Drake.”

What is coming out next from you studio wise?

“We’ve got some really great stuff in the works but we can’t tell you all that much about out it right now, we’re just really happy to have put out ‘Voodoo’!”

The big 5 tunes in your box this weekend…

1.     David Guetta feat Sam Martin (Showtek Remix)

2.     Ruthless & LNY TNZ – Dum Dum

3.     Thomas Newson – Pallaroid

4.     Quintino & Mercer – Genesis

5.     4B – Drop it again

Dance music has reached pretty much every country in the world. DJs hear their music in the weirdest of places and find themselves spinning in the most far out locations. How was Albania last week – you had some cool cars laid on for you!

“Haha yeah those cars were pretty sick! Albania was really cool, it’s awesome to play in countries like these because we’d never have expected to visit them! It makes it even more special sometimes.”

When you go off the beaten track DJing, do you ever structure your sets differently. Surely a set in Albania is different from a set in Las Vegas for instance?

“We know how to play different crowds, it’s pretty logical actually. When you play a headline show people are going to expect you to play your biggest tracks. But when you play a smaller stage or second room you can go a experiment with some different sounds. But then again, people in Albania might only get to see us once a year so we have to give them some of our big tunes.”

An up and coming producer we should be looking out for in 2015?

“KSHMR.”

The last time one of you said to other, ‘dude – you played amazingly well tonight’…?

“Almost every night! We thrive on positivity so we tell each other when we do well, we also tell each other what wasn’t going as good as it could be.”

What is on a DVBBS rider in 2015?

“Two pairs of white Nikes.”

Are you the type of producers who shy away from the gaming tables whilst in Vegas, or do you gamble away some of your wages…?

“No comment.. haha!!”

The best club gig of 2014…?

“Our shows in Koolhaus Toronto most definitely!”

The last time you pressed rewind on a track and listened to it again because it was so damned good?

“Our next single…it’s really a cross over track. Super proud of it.”

A festival date in 2015 that you just cannot wait for?

“Mysteryland in The Netherlands is probably going to be pretty wild!”

A festival moment you would rather forget?

“They were all cool man, we enjoy ourselves whenever we’re on stage! There are a lot of travel moments we’d like to forget though.”

Who are the producer dudes you like to hang out with at festivals…who are the superstars you like to have a beer with when you are not working?

“We became good friends with Jay Hardway and Borgeous of course, but also Martin Garrix, Carnage, Wacka Flocka and many others…we just love to hang out after shows with our DJ buddies.”

What do you think are each other’s strongest points as producers?

“Alex is good with melodies and vocals, but Chris is really sick with making the phat beats, build ups and drops. We really complete each other in that way!”

The last time a girl fan flashed her tits at you at one of your gigs?

“Haha that happens sometimes yeah, not sure when the last time was though. Probably last week…”

Some nice DVBBS clothing you were promoting on Facebook this week. When was the last time one of you said to each other…’dude, you are not going out wearing that!’…?

“Hahaha, let’s say we respect each others style…”

Your Facebook ‘likes’ is now over three million!!!! How much of an input do you have on your social media? Are you hands on or do you have a team looking after things?

“We’re pretty hands on, we like to communicate with our fans so we do that most of ourselves through Twitter, instagram and Facebook!”

An album or artist you love that we would be surprised to discover you like?

“That Drake mixtape is fire!”

And finally. For the thousands of aspiring producers and DJs reading this…what is the best piece of advice you can offer for people wanting to follow in your famous footsteps?

“Keep making tracks you believe in yourself. If you don’t like the music you make you’re never going to be able to make it special or really amazing.”
