Federico Scavo

One of the world’s premier house music producers tears up the dancefloor yet again

Few names have stood the test of time in House music like Italian DJ / Producer Federico Scavo. Over his career, he’s twisted and refined his sound through Tech, Electro, Funky, Deep and Tribal formats, never losing the ‘Scavo Sound’.  His tour schedule is never-ending visiting the world’s premier hot spots whilst in the studio, Federico has worked his way through a discography that’s seen his consistently chart-topping releases showcased on the likes of Ultra, Toolroom, Spinnin, Tiger, Great Stuff, X Records, Pacha, D:Vision, Hotfingers, Ego and Azuli. He kicks off the new year with a bang with two massive new tunes including the mighty ‘Anima’, Dan Prince gets the world exclusive…

Signor Scavo Felice Anno Nuovo! Let’s kick off with your Christmas and New Years Eve, tell us all about it. Where did you spend it, did you get any crap gifts, where did you DJ, what did you play at midnight, did you wake up with a hangover?

Hi, happy new year to everybody! I spent xmas time with my family and I was very lucky to receive only great gifts!!! On the 25th I played at Mora Mora in Viareggio, one hour from home, so I could go home after the show. On New Years Eve I was in Foggia in the south of Italy. Club gigs start very late, especially for the last night of the year, so at midnight I was actually in the hotel having dinner! I actually started playing at about 3am. The day after I was asleep as usual with not too much of a hangover to report, thankfully.

So massive news for 2016 with your mighty new single ‘Anima’ single. The reviewers are throwing words such as ‘tech house flavours’, ‘minimal moody basslines’, ‘latin vocal chants’…Federico, please give us your description of your new tune…

For me ‘Anima’ is the union between House music, Techno and a Latin chorus. I imagined it in order to create something never heard before.

Where did you first roadtest the tune, what was the reaction like?

I tried it during the xmas gig at Mora Mora and the reaction was huge, the crowd went completely mad and I’m very happy about it.

The Alex Gospel Dub of your ‘Live Your Life’ track you created with Barbara Tucker is everywhere at the moment. You must be over the moon?

Yes, I’m proud to have produced this project with Barbara Tucker and it’s also great when a release is completed with cool remixes like that. Positive vibes.

So a new year and a diary full of great looking DJ gigs laying ahead for you. Where are some of the clubs/festivals you cannot wait to get stuck into this year?

I’m thinking about Wall Miami on the 23rd of January, where I will be lots of times again this year.

A very sad day for the world of music with the passing of David Bowie yesterday. Were you a fan of the man and his music?

I’m sad about this huge loss. David’s a genius that made a big contribution to the music world during his life. I have some vinyls of the tracks I liked most.

An up and coming DJ/producer to watch out for in 2016…

I’m not sure to can say only one name. There are many promising producers in the House scene, but to name two would be Melè and John Jacobsen.

Looking back at 2015, do you think it was a good year for dance music?

It was good to see House music coming back to the forefront even more.

What was your gig and record of 2015?

Federico Scavo – Live Your Life feat. Barbara Tucker (D:vision Records) and the best gig was at Praja Gallipoli, a fantastic club in Salento (Puglia, Southern Italy).

What are your hopes for music in 2016?

I hope that we’ll see more House tracks with full vocals, because it’s the genre I prefer.

Have you set yourself any challenges or aims this year?

I challenge myself everyday, with thoughts and ideas on realising new music projects.

What are the big 5 tunes in your box this weekend?

Federico Scavo – Live Your Life ft. Barbara Tucker (Alex Finkin remix) (D:vision)

Federico Scavo – Groove (Hotfingers)

Luca Guerrieri – Destino (DVS)

Riton – Rinse & Repeat feat. Kahlo (Riton time)

Drinkee – Sofi Tukker (promo)

And finally, what is coming out next from you studio wise?

I go into the studio every week to make a brand new single or a remix, so expect lots of new stuff coming up soon!
