Futuristic Polar Bears

Premiered by Hardwell. ‘Gaia’ – absolutely massive

Interview by Simon Tillotson

Fresh off the back of a tour of the biggest clubs in Asia, the Futuristic Polar Bears are back in the charts with their biggest track of the year so far, the incredible collaboration with Wayne & Woods – Gaia. Released on ZeroThree and premiered by Hardwell himself, Gaia is quickly climbing the charts, while the world listens, we took the chance to sit down with the Polar Bears and chat all things music.

Yo FPB! Great to have you – what’s been going on over the last few months?

We’ve had a crazy few months touring with shows in America, Asia and Europe. We’ve also been working hard in the studio on some really exciting projects with some amazing artists that will be coming out over the summer.

Your new track with Wayne & Woods is out now on ZeroThree and doing pretty well already by the looks of things!) – what’s the story behind that?

We actually started writing the track with Wayne & Woods back in November when they sent over a rough idea. We all loved the elements of the track and it didn’t take too much to get it into a really good playable condition. Magnificence then jumped in as they wanted to do a collab separately with both us so we decided to all jump in together on this one and they put the finishing shine on it.

It’s been a bit of a rollercoaster for you guys since Back To Earth smashed the charts last year – what’s the biggest difference between the Futuristic Polar Bears today and 12 months ago?

The last year has certainly made us stronger in so many ways from touring right through to the way we work in the studio. Its all about now maintaining the hype and energy of the last 12 months and moving forwards, we’ve got some incredible releases lined up that we’re really excited about.

You’ve just got back from a tour in Asia, you hit the US at the end of 2014 and there’s been plenty of European dates in between – is there anywhere still untouched by the FPB sound that you really want to tick off the list?

We still haven’t toured in Australia or South America yet and the goal this year is to hopefully get into those territories, there’s so many great clubs and festivals in both places that we cant wait to play.

There’s a lot of talk at the moment about the “EDM” bubble bursting, is this something that you guys agree with? If so, what will replace that particular sound that has been so immensely popular over the last few years?

Like everything music evolves and it will continue to do so over the coming years. At the end of the day if you love the music you are making and people love listening to it and partying to it, does it really matter what style it is?

The current FPB sound is something that has won you thousands of fans across the world, considering your tech house roots, can we expect to see you trying out new styles in future productions?

We’re always trying and experimenting with the new sounds, that’s the nature of being a music producer. Touching back on the last question music is all about the love and if you put you love and soul into what you making then that’s all that matters.

And finally, is there anything is that we should be keeping an eye out for from you guys?

Keep your eyes peeled on our summer releases, unfortunately we can’t say too much more than that but they’ll be worth the wait trust us!!
