Canada’s latest superstar producer doing it for the Ladies

What was the first piece of music you heard this morning after rolling out of bed?
Sam Gellaitry & Connor Pearson – Ess. This song gets me in the perfect mood! Sam G is killing it right now.
So massive news for you right now with the release of your new single ‘Ladies’ on FMLY/Universal Records…please talk us through the sound and history of the track…
Ladies is a blend of my old and new, I wanted to mix my new style with some older dubstep sounds that I used to work with a few years back. I really love the deep house vibe that is booming right now and I wanted to take that up a notch! I got a lot of influence from this track by listening to the Crookers, and some electro from around 2011.
Who are some of the famous ladies from around that you wouldn’t mind a night out with?
DJ Tigerlily! We could go b2b as a date.
At what age did you discover electronic music?
When I was 13 Skrillex came into my life, and since then I have loved electronic music.
When did the idea of a career in dance music start to form in your head?
Not until I was producing my own songs did I realize that this was something I wanted to keep doing. Once I saw a few of my favourite DJ acts live, I knew that I wanted to do what they did and make music for a living.
What did your family think of this decision?
Fortunately my family has been extremely supportive about it! Everyone in my family is happy for me that I am pursuing my dream!
Do any of them come to your gigs?
Yes! I even had my grandma come out to a music festival I was playing at.. that was good times! My Mom, Dad, Sister, Cousins have all seen me perform before.
Tell us about the scene in Vancouver, it’s a city that doesn’t spring up much in DMCWORLD…it seems to be growing all the time…?
The scene in Vancouver is growing really quickly. Lots of music producers are coming out of Vancouver that I have never heard of or hitting me up to work on some stuff together. It’s awesome, and I’m excited to see how it will change over the next few years.
Highlights from Las Vegas in August?
Riding the rollercoaster at the New York, New York 4 times in a row. I did not feel so well after that!
